Having ordered a multi touch w510, it dawned on me that it probably isn't much use for myself without a stylus or pen since my primary use for it would have been to draw (in illustrator, etc). I did some digging around into other multi touch pens (that simulate finger input), and it looks like they do exist for iphones and mpb.
Anyone have any experience using a pogo sketch or other similar device with the T400s with respect to how useful it is for drawing? I assume it would work on the thinkpads well since they use similar capacitive touch screen technology?

Just found this video of the pen used on a mac book pro's multitouch pad and there seems to be orientation issues since the pad doesn't input relative to specific locations on the screen. I wonder if it would be any more natural on a thinkpad multi-touch display which does have such a direct a correlation Seems it could be pretty killer if it worked well.

any news about multi touch and stylus
-
From the helpfile on the W510:
"The touch panel is a glass panel covered with a plastic film. Do not use any pen or any metallic object, because to do so might damage the touch panel or cause it to malfunction."
Sounds scary... -
Did you get the multi touch screen? If so would a stylus work on this screen ? like pogo sketch for iphon. check the link below

Like everyone else I had my w510 order pushed back. As for damaging the screen, the pens have a very soft end so it shouldn't be a problem. Not only are the ends soft they are quite thick. As a result, probably not the best for accuracy, but I suppose it could still be useful.

I have no use for touch screen or multitouch screens on a laptop.

I tried the lenovo digitizer with W510. no response on the screen.
Has anyone had luck? is it the driver that is missing (wacom)? -

That the iphone stylus would have been the best bet. Which one did you try? There were a few cheapo ones on ebay that didn't work too well (even on my ipod touch).
-
I tried the cheapest kind with the rubber head (the one you can see on ebay from 99c to $2). It works on the iphone but the w510 screen cannot detect it. Even if it worked it wouldn't be convenient for writing because it doesn't move smoothly on the screen.
Do you have a better one? -
Very interesting topic as I'm also looking for a pen device to use the multitouch on the w510 for signatures, notes and scribble when I'm bored.
I thought a digitizer with a felt nip (thought of the nips Wacom offers for replacement) should do the trick while also protecting the screen but after reading here I guess also this option won't work.
Seems Lenovo makes it difficult to use their mt in a decent businesslike manner. -
If any digitizer pen would work on the T400s / W510 that won't be a Wacom pen, but an N-Trig pen as the digitizers for the non-tablet models are made by N-Trig. The Dell XT/XT2 and HP tx2 uses such pens, so maybe finding one of these might help. Not sure if the ThinkPad's N-Trig system has both the touch and pen layers though.
Also interested to see where this would go. -
So I picked up a W510 for photo and video editing. I also got the touchscreen. I have a pogo stylus for my iphone and a wacom pen, and 3rd weird tablet pen. Both pens do not work, however with the pogo it does work. The drawback with the pogo is that you need to press fairly hard to get it to activate (which I would rather not do).
I am still looking around for a much 'firmer' pen with a finer point but alas I guess we can't have it all. I just might have to make something... -
