I am running Ubuntu (actually, Kubuntu) Karmic and everything (like audio, wifi, sleeping) including two external monitors work fine (one 1680x1050, one 1920x1200). Attaching the 1680x1050 over VGA needed
    Code:
    xrandr --newmode 1680x1050 146.25 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync
    xrandr --addmode VGA1 1680x1050
    xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1680x150

I used only this one over VGA as the quality of the HD monitor over the analog cable was terrible. All is fine now with the docking station and two digital connections, modes are automatically picked up. As Wikipedia says, the DisplayPort signal is not compatible with DVI or HDMI, but a DisplayPort connector can pass these signals through and indeed xrandr reports I am using a DVI connector even though I have a DP-HDMI cable plugged in.

Here is the big surprise: you can attach two eSATA disks, one on the laptop, one on the docking station and that just works.

Great to see another T400s Linux user. I recieved my T400s a couple days ago and setup Arch Linux on it. I noticed that the HAL keymap was incorrect for some of the Fn key buttons. The mute-microphone button is also not mapped to any key.

Other than that, everything else works flawlessly. Webcam, and the Ultrabay HDD adapter works out of the box.

The only things that's frustrating is the Fn-Ctrl situation, I hope a BIOS revision will fix that up, until then i switch Ctrl-CapsLock because apparently Fn is not remapable by Linux.

Do you have functionality of the multitouch trackpad? What about the middle button scrolling for the pointing stick? I wasn't able to get the middle button scrolling working on Ubuntu 9.04 with my old X301 (now T400s).

I do not use the touchpad, sorry. Use btnx and xev. It will help. I am rsyncing an 500GB 2.5" WD disk to an 1.5 RAID1 array consisting of two 1.5TB 5400RPM Samsung disks:

    4 192 478 581 100% 47.75MB/s 0:01:23 (xfer#7, to-check=1084/1092).

That aint bad! Those eSATA ports are not slow...

The linux synaptics driver is capable of multitouch. I've only use the feature to scroll using two fingers, so I can't comment on the other gestures. I don't think its touchpad-specific since I used this functionality on my old Z61p.

In 9.04, using HAL and udev, the middle button for the trackpoint could only be used if the touchpad were turned off. I actually use both regularly on my system, so this isn't really an option...I wonder if there has been success in getting the middle button to work for scrolling without disabling the touchpad in the BIOS.

How well does the two-finger scroll work? Two finger scrolling on my Fujitsu Lifebook, while supported, is terrible (jumpy, inaccurate), especially compared to OS X on a MacBook.

Anyone have experience trying out the other gestures? I love the trackpoint, but I've also come to appreciate using the trackpad on MacBooks as shortcuts for Exposé and alt-tab. It would be great to have the best of both worlds using Linux + compiz on a Thinkpad.

While on the subject of comparing trackpads, I may as well ask how the t400s trackpad compares with the Macbook unibody "glasspad". Having played with both the new and old trackpads on two MacBooks, the new one just feels much better in use. Wondering how the t400s compares against either.
