Based on online reviews, some people like it and others don't. I personally can't stand a bumpy/dimpled touchpad. They usually feel like sandpaper and my fingers start to hurt after a few minutes of use.
I'm considering the T410s and I'm assuming it will have the same dimpled touchpad. Anyone have comments on this? Is it better than other dimpled touchpads?

To state the obvious, there's much more traction on the newer bumpy trackpads. Personally, I prefer the old texture, but with a bit of time, I think I could easily grow used to it.
Because it's largely individual preference, you're best off finding a new Thinkpad to play around with. Although most brick-and-mortar retailers do not carry T-series Thinkpads, many do carry SL-series Thinkpads - the new SL510 and SL410 both have the new bumpy texture on their touchpads (although the manufacturer is ALPS, not Synaptics, in those models). Try it out and see if you like it. -
As far as touchpads go, I think I prefer the regular, smooth touchpads of yore. However, I keep my touchpad disabled in favor of using the trackpoint exclusively, except for rare occasions. So by and large it doesn't matter to me.

as far as touchpads go, i do prefer this "bumpy" touchpad
that said, i disabled it in bios before i even got into windows the first time i booted up
trackpoint FTW! -
i like the bumpy touchpad more than non-bumpy version that lenovo used in previous models.
However, it doesnt come close to usability of that glass touchpad that apple uses on macbooks pro. -
I like it much better than smooth.

Personally I think the T400s touchpad is great.

Thanks for the comments - seems like most people like it.
The touchpad is big thing for me and a bad one could be a deal breaker. Hopefuly I'll be okay with it. If not, maybe I can get use to the trackpoint. -
