Will any 1.8" SSD w/3Gbps SATA work? Any specific recommendations.
My T400s has the 60?MB Toshiba SSD and i'm finding it a tight squeeze.

Yes, any 1.8" Sata SSD will work.
OCZ has some vertex3 drives with SATA 3.0, which is 6Gbps. I assume they are backwards compatible but I don't know for sure. The next gen of intel SSD, will still use SATA 2.0, 3Gbps.
The price of the current intel SSDs might drop a little bit when the 3rd gen ones are released. But I don't know when that will be.
I bought an intel SSD. Looking at newegg and Amazon reviews they seem to have fewer complaints of the drive dying. I heard on the PcPer.com podcast that intel does more testing on their SSD drives than other companies.

I use the Corsair CMFSSD-256GBG2D. Although I don't know whether it's 1.8 or 2.5 iches, it's been as solid as a hard drive and I've done many backups and defragmentations.

I have the Intel 160GB in my T410s. See Newegg.com - Intel X18-M Mainstream SSDSA1MH160G201 1.8" 160GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - SSD for example. You can probably find a better price.
I also have the Crucial C300 128GB drive. See Newegg.com - Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAA128MAG-1G1 1.8" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) -

If you see an SSD for sale, and are wondering whether it supports Trim or what controller it uses, PCper.com has a SSD decoder table that is constantly being updated, listing all sorts of info.
