I didn't see a sleeve thread for the T400s so I wanted to see if could get some suggestions on what to get.

I am looking for a very light-thin sleeve. I only need surface scratch protection and not really anything to protect against drops.

Ideally I would want a vertical sleeve case where I can just put it out of my bookbag. I've already had a waterfield sleeve case and found it too heavy. Don't get me wrong, the waterfield sleeve case has superior protection, but it was far to heavy to justify imo.

    Any ideas?

I like the one from sfbags.com as you can customize them to have exactly what you want.

Not sure if this is the kind of sleeve you are looking for, but I tried this sleeve for size at the store a week or two ago and it was a pretty good fit for my T400s, and pretty light too.

    Got two ideas for you:

    1) I use an Incase sleeve that's actually marketed for the 15" Macbook Pro. It fits my 14" widescreen R61 perfectly, and should do the same for your T400s. It's very nice quality but perhaps a bit thicker than you require--however, if you get it, you won't regret it.

    2) I also found a very thin sleeve from Jansport in my college bookstore. Only $20 and very thin, but it doesn't really feel as well-made as the Incase.

I have a Targus sleeve I got from best buy, this one specifically.

It fit's my T400 snugly. No complaints.

I took my t400s to the store and tried to find a good bag. everything is too big for it, and the macbook air bags are a teensy bit too small. argghg.

I want to mention that I purchased a black InCase MacBook Pro 15" sleeve at the Apple Store today. The T400s fit very nicely in it; perhaps not quite as snugly as the MacBook, but certainly acceptable. If you live near a place where these sleeves are sold, I'd recommend bringing the T400s and trying it out. It felt great <del>trolling</del> going into the Apple Store with my Thinkpad in hand...

    T61/T400/T400s have the same footprint.

So are most of the T61's.

The eBay page has "wide" in the name.

I would contact the seller before buying. I've had one wrong (4:3) (well, basicly I bought the wrong notebook to be honest). The page advertised the wide variant but they shipped the 4:3 variant.

That's why you need to contact the seller and see if you get a good reply in English.

He will probably tell you whatever you want, so ask if the sleeve is for a 4:3 T61, and if he says yes; look for another seller on eBay.

Although I have not seen these in real life or know hardly anything about them other than what is mentioned in the article, you might want to check out ThinkPad branded sleeves here:

    Stop Going Sleeveless

No idea if they are available yet.

I ended up getting a "Jack Spade" canvas day bag for my T400s (got it on sale at their NYC store for half-price). I wanted something small and simple that could carry a couple of cords and the laptop and maybe a book, but nothing bigger than that.

It is not a laptop bag, just a normal messenger, and so it basically doesn't have any padding. But the computer seems sturdy enough to carry around without additional protection, and I've found that realistically, a bit of padding doesn't really do anything anyway if you whack the thing hard enough to actually hurt the computer.

The T400s fits quite snugly in there.

    Worked for me, YMMV.
