I have a T40P that I got back from my father. I remember being impressed by the brightness of the screen when I first bought it for him but then it's been three years since and I feel that the backlighting of the LCD is somewhat dark for my taste now. Have I spoiled by the newer notebook PC out there or that the screen has gone bad? The screen is still readable but not as bright as the newer computers out there. Is there any remedies? I heard that you can replace the flourecent tube or the inverter as they tend to age. Which one should I replace? how much do they cost?

I don't think so. I just replaced my X40 with a X41. The X40 was three years old and to be fair, I didn't notice much difference. Kinda like gaining a few pounds on the waist over time.

When I got my new X41, I ran it along side of my X40 and the new screen seemed about "2 clicks" brighter using the Fn and Home key combination that the X40 and X41 use to brighten the screen.

Short of replacing your computer or LCD screen, there is probably nothing you can do about it.

I've noticed the same thing happening in the past with other brands of laptop computers. I just replace the LCD monitor on my wife's desktop that was doing the same dimming thing.
