    Can somebody help me here,

why is the t41 lcd resolution so bad if I reduce it from 1400X1050 to 1280X1024?

I'm aware that T41 resolution is greater and can have a higher resolution, but why the fonts seems to be smeared when i change it to lower resolution?

All LCDs work in their native resolution best. When you lower the res, quality suffers greatly. This is not a problem with your notebook, that's just how LCDs work.

To elaborate, your screen has 1,470,000 little points it knows how to light up properly. Any other number requires it to use multiple points to represent a single pixel.

This is bad enough normally, but doubly bad when you change the aspect ratio... (1400x1050 is 4:3 and 1280x1024 is 5:4) because if you would've switched to say 700x525 you would always just use twice as many points... but in your case sometimes you use two and sometimes you use one, so it "smears."

Frustrating as hell, especially since I can't get my X Server to run in anything higher than 1280x1024

    Hi,

Does that means that the lower the resolution goes it will used less pixel?

A lower resolution screen has fewer pixels than a higher resolution one.
