This might sound weird, but it has been happening a lot to me lately. My wireless connection drops whenever someone uses the microwave. The adapter is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN. What could I do to fix this besides lack of microwave use or throwing it away?

I have updated to the latest driver and I no longer have the Connection Manager as I found I lose connection more with it installed.

go into your wireless property under system and control panel, device manager.

Make sure your power output is maximum, roaming aggressiveness is low/minimum and power saving feature is off.

I tried what you suggested, but I still can't simultaneously use the microwave and surf the net.

If your wifi router is running DD-WRT or similar, you could try boosting the gain (just keep an eye on your SNR while doing so).

Maybe relocate the router in relation to the microwave. If the microwave is between the router & your thinkpad, I doubt anything short of re-locating will help.

I still haven't fixed this problem. It's not my router or location because my other laptop can connect with the microwave in use. I don't know how else to fix it.

FWIW, microwaves operate at 2.4GHz—same as most Wi-Fi. If you can configure your access point (AP) to use 5GHz instead (you’ll lose 802.11b/g if you have a single radio AP), your issue might go away.

What is access point? How can I figure it? I'm in my router's website and I can't find it. If it's the same as wireless channel, maximum is 2.462Ghz. Right now, my mode is mixed 802.11n/g/b.

Most cheap/consumer-class wireless access points/routers cannot do 5GHz—yours might be one of them.

Yeah, you're right. My router is DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router. Does this mean I either have to buy a new router or microwave? lol

I would try updating the drivers too before replacing the hardware. I know that I had one version of drivers that was unstable and was dropping out. My current Wifi drivers are stable which are version 13.1.1.1

How old is your microwave!? This should probably not be happening. Microwaves are supposed to keep their rays completely internalized. The wire mesh on the front door has exactly the right size holes to reflect microwave radiation. However, some older, well used units do begin to leak over time.

I really don't think this should be happening

if your microwave is indeed leaking EM radiation, i think you should get a new one ASAP.

Also, try changing your Wifi router to channel 1. Apparently 11 is the worst for interference from microwaves.

I don't know how old is my microwave, but when I use the microwave with my old laptop...no interference. So I'm thinking that there's something wrong with the lenovo laptop.

I will try to update the driver and changing my wifi router (usually detects the best).

Edit: I already have the up-to-date driver installed...

Let me introduce you to my brand new Panasonic signal jammer!
    (Panasonic NN-H765WF)

When this sucker runs, EVERYTHING 2.4Ghz dies, even from like 30 ft away, in the next room. So anything bluetooth, wireless remote, WiFi, phones, all dead when this thing runs. I've seen all sorts of microwaves do this.

I should probably be wearing my aluminum mixing bowl whenever this thing runs...
