I can't seem to find the ultrabay battery on the Lenovo website that is supposed to swap out for the DVD-drive.

I was under the impression that UltraBay battery support in the T410 and T510 were cut in favor of the additional slice battery (although the T410s will continue to support UltraBay batteries). I believe there was some post on one of the Thinkpad designer's blogs about this.

there is no support the ultrabay battery for the new generation of the Thinkpads apart from T410s.

That seems very odd given that the other ultrabay accessories are compatible.

    not odd at all
the t410/510 ultrabays don't have battery connectors in them anymore, while they still have sata connectors

Right, obviously they removed the connectors; that's what's odd. I'd far rather add spare battery capacity in the CD bay which adds nominal weight filling an otherwise largely un-used void in the chassis rather than having to add 1.5lbs + extra thickness by using the slice.

I guess their reasoning is that with the move to having 9-cell as (quasi-)standard, the additional 3 cells in the bay don't really add much. And probably they didn't sell that many either.

the ultrabay battery costs around the same as a 9 cell battery, and it pales against the competitions which uses external battery packs.
