    Hey fellow Thinkpad owners,

I thought really hard to get a X220 but I decided that it's not worth it because I had just got this T410 last year when it came out. I've decided to make a few upgrades to my T410 and wait a couple more years to get a Thinkpad X-Series. I've been looking into upgrading my hard drive by getting a SSD and swapping out my optical drive for a second storage hard drive.

Yesterday, I purchased the ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III from Lenovo's site. It says that it supports the T410 so there shouldn't be any problems with it fitting right? I'm looking at buying an Intel 320 Series SSD. I was initially going to get the 160 GB but since I'm planning on using the ultrabay to put a secondary HDD I was looking at the smaller sizes. Would 80 or the 120 GB suffice?

Regarding putting the HDD in the ultrabay, I was looking at either a 500 GB or 750 GB drive. Should I get a 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm drive? or does it not matter? Does a 7200 rpm make access to data faster or is the bottleneck in the connection? I was looking at the 750 GB WD Scorpio Black. I should put the SSD in the regular hard drive space and my secondary/storage drive in the ultrabay right?

In addition, I got a 9 cell battery slice for my T410 to increase battery life. Does anyone also have this for their T-series machine? If so, how are you liking it and what's your battery life?

Any input would be appreciated! Thanks.

The ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III will work fine with the T410 so you don't need to worry about that. If you plan to get an SSD as your primary drive then you don't really need to worry about the speed of the secondary HDD to be honest, just go for the highest capacity you can afford really.

I have a 80GB Intel SSD as my primary drive and a 5400RPM 500GB WD Scorpio Blue in the ultrabay and the combination works well on my T61. Can't comment on the battery as I only got a 6 cell on my system.

    1. The Intel X25-M 2.5" 80GB SATA II should be good for OS and apps. This will replace the present HDD. (Of course, you're going to reinstall everything on the SDD.)

    2. The ThinkPad SATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III is proper. You could "re-purpose" the present HDD in this adapter, or you could buy any 2.5" 7200rpm SATA 3Gb/s HDD.
