So I've been wanting to upgrade my laptop's hard drive for a while now (current 320gb 5400RPM just feels sluggish).
Decided I may go with a 64GB SDD + Ultrabay HDD solution.

I like the Samsung 830 series and will most likely be getting one. However, my issue is that these SDDs are 7.5mm while the T410 has a 9.5mm bay.
I realize there are notebook kits for this SDD that comes with a spacer, but for some reason, the 64gb version only comes as a desktop kit.

    So.. what do I do?
Can I just jam a few index cards in there as a spacer or would this cause issues with heat?

Is your existing HDD mounted in a caddy? If so, then you can most likely swap this over because the bottom of the drive is screwed to the caddy. The caddy will then hold the drive in the right place in the bay.

Otherwise, your proposal of using some packing should work fine. I'd probably cut a piece of foam to fix on the drive at the end away from the connector. Heat dissipation is not a problem.

Not sure if its mounted in a caddy actually (cant check since I loaned the laptop to a friend). Think it was though, so I guess I'm fine.

But glad to know I can just stuff it to make it stay in place haha.

Thanks for the advice, will see if I have some foam at home.
