I have tried with two different Seagate 750 Gb harddrive to upgrade my current harddrive in my T410. The Seagate drives are both 750 Gb ST9750420AS drives. I've cloned my current harddrive to both of the drives to try it out, but I still can't use Windows update after I've cloned the drive. I get:
"Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer"
I've also tried to use Recovery dvd's to try to start from scratch, same error. I just don't get it, it works perfectly with the original Seagate harddrive and my 640 WD I usual use in the computer.

I've just checked, System Update doesn't work either, it just says System Update 4 for about a minute and then it closes down without any errors.

Could you be more specific? Are you installing Windows 7 on the 750GB drive cleanly using the Windows 7 SP1 integrated DVD?
Or are you using the factory disks that you created when you received your T410? -
Sorry, I've tried to clone my existing drive and I've also tried with the recovery discs I made when I got the computer.
The funny thing is that the same thing happened on my W510, but on that computer I've solved it by deleting the content in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs folder so right now I'm reinstalling my T410 to check if I can do the same thing on that. -
And it also works on the T410 to delete the contend in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs folder as long as you have the newest Intel Rapid Storage technology driver installed, at least it works, but I still find it pretty strange.

If anybody has interest in it, it's the same thing with the EDGE series and Seagates 5400 750Gb drives, you'll need the newest Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver and delete the files in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs folder to get Windows Update to work.
T410 incompatibly with certain Seagate drives?
