Hey
I own a 3 week old T410, with a Nvidia graphics card. Im relatively pleased with this laptop, except for an issue i've encountered. Sometimes, maybe 3-4 times a week, when I close the lid on the laptop, to make it go to sleep, the laptop simply does not. What occurs instead, is that while screen turns black, i can see that It is still lit. Also, i can still hear the hard drive spinning. At this point, whatever I do, whether opening the lid, or pressing buttons on the keyboard, it doesnt do anything. Can you guys offer any help?

Have you tried updating the BIOS?
-
Ah, I have version 1.20, updating right now.
-
So, did it help?
-
uhh, well we'll have to wait and see, but so far no problems yet
-
Ugh, no good. Today when i pressed fn + f4 to make the computer goes to sleep, the screen shuts off, but I can still hear the hard drive spinning...again. After leaving it like this for an hour or so ( I went out to dinner), I come back and I've found the computer has shut down. When I boot the computer back again, windows detects it as a "unexpected shutdown ". Any help? I was thinking of clean installing it, but Im not sure if that would work.

Sorry, I use Linux. There were some issues with sleeping (well, actually with waking up), but those were solved by the BIOS update...
My only experience with windows on T410 is... reinstalling it
I tried to update to the new power management software to modify battery settings (to stop charging at 95% and start again when it reaches 70% - when it's set in windows it works in Linux as well) and after the update the system would not boot again - just some kind of BSOD (some issue with hard drive driver) - So I had to restore the windows partition :/
(attempted update again, this time just the power management software isntead of full update and the battery settings work great!) -
I think the problem is with the Nvidia graphics drivers.
Re-install or install a different version (you can try both the newest and older ones, but from my experience - the newest are usually to blame). -
Hmm, well I did a clean install and it hasnt solved the problem, because today this problem happened again to me twice, where the computer failed to sleep properly. Where would i find the older drivers for the Nvidia graphics card?

Contact Lenovo support. That behaviour is not normal on a Thinkpad.
