One would think it would be very simple at a software level to implement. However, since the settings are applied on a hardware level I think there is a chance they have removed said functionality from Thinkpads. The reason I believe it is hardware is because the settings are saved when the computer is off, it is also saved when booting to another OS (such as Linux). If it were at a software level, when the computer isn't in said environment wouldn't it charge or discharge as if it weren't there?

For those who have received your T410 with integrated graphics, could you comment on the noise level? Thanks!
-
I received a new T410 about 4 days ago. I am concerned about the battery. It physically does not fit tightly into the laptop. There is a lot of play and it rattles when I walk around with the laptop. I called support and they sent a new battery. It is a little better but not much!
This is my first Lenovo machine and I am considering a return. Has anyone else seen this with the battery (6-cell)? How does the quality of Lenovo compared to the Dell e6400? I don't believe the T410 has the "Thinkpad" Quality I was expecting. -
Is the battery wiggle the only concern? My T43 has some play around the battery. This never presented a practical problem in the 5 years I've owned it. The unit otherwise has performed admirably. -
My R61 has a similar battery wiggle (a little slack in the docking with the case) but it has not caused me issues either.
-
My X200 had quite a bit of battery wiggle as well. A lot of laptops (not only Lenovo's) suffers from this problem. Honestly, I can't see why it's so difficult to make a battery that fits tight!
-
On the other hand: some layers of tape and the battery fits.
-
Can a T410 owner comment on heat and noise.
My T400 isn`t completely silent but it is among the quietest laptops I`ve tried, even when encoding videos for hours on end.
I measured the system power and got:
idle: 16watts
load: 35watts
It is a P8400 with 4500 integrated graphics.
That core i5 i7 link had some pretty bad system power consumption numbers:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/typo3temp/pics/f3d52024f9.gif
i7620m
idle: 26-30watts
load: 64 watts
i540m
idle: 17-20watts
load: 50watts
It is going to take a lot more fan speed-noise to move 50 or 65 watts of heat out of the case than the 35watts the T400 is using.
Can anyone measure their T410 power use. Please include the graphics chip if it is the Intel HD or Nvidia chip.
Where are the professional reviews of the T410? Given that the T400 normally ranks near the top of most viewed laptops on NBR you would think they would want a T410 review out as fast as possible. -
I hope hope that the battery thresholds are still there. There is absolutely no reason to remove such a feature, especially when it's a useful and unique feature for thinkpads. I see no way it makes thinkpads better so I hope that it's not true.

A review is up on the T410.
http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-t410.aspx?page=1 -
It's very nice to see a review finally! May have made my decision to get integrated graphics or go with a studio 15z.
-
For those of you that bought the t410 with core i7 and dedicated graphics, how much it weigh?
-
Thanks for the update! And big props to laptopmag, I find they give some very solid reviews. A bit concerning is that the video playback was less than ideal, but sounds more like a software issue I think.
-
So the viewing angles are decent overall. Good to know.
-
Am I missing something? On the Laptopmag review, on PCMark Vantage, the T410 with integrated graphics scores 6937, compared to the T410 with discrete graphics which scores 5387. (The T400s scored 5893.)
? -
I think it's the other way around. A typo IMHO.
-
Certainly not impossible seeing as they mistyped the discrete's battery life in the battery-life graph (should be 3:09, not 3:53).
Someone on another forum speculated that the problem might be it coming preconfigured using 16bit color combined with using a TN screen. Maybe someone could check if that's the case on their T410? -
I second this! There have been a few comments as to the fans being a bit loud, or always being on? I am so torn between two different laptops (t410 and Sager NP7652) that I would really like to be sure of things such as this. Unfortunately right now it seems like both of the notebooks that I really want have noise emission problems! Gah
Thanks for any responses,
Ryan -
Hmm I suppose it possible, but then it doesn't explain why the reviewers mentioned that viewing pictures and gaming turned out to be fine.
-
I don't have any flex on the lid of my T400...infact this is the first I've heard of lid flex...
-
did you register here just to troll and complain?
-
If you look carefully at StealthTH's signature:
"Previous Laptop: Thinkpad T42 Pentium M 1.8Ghz Radeon 9600 14.1 SXGA+ 2GB Ram 60GB 7200RPM 9-Cell " -
I extensive compared a T400 and a Dell E6400 before I ended up keeping the T400. I found the T400 to be more solidly built and ran a lot cooler.
- While both laptops have similiar dimensions the lid is thicker on the T400(compared to the e6400) and the base is thinner(compared to an e6400). Flexing was negligible on the T400.
- T400 ran amazingly cool. Amazing considering the base was thinner than the E6400.
I find it surprising people want bulletproof material in sub $1000 laptops.
To the people comparing power numbers are you cosnidering the fact that with the T410 the integrated graphics is on-die and the power numbers might includes this? -
Well, I did have a T42. Yes, I do remember the metallic exterior of the T42 lid. It did feel quite nice, however I know there is a roll cage under the plastic on my T400 and I do not notice any flex on the plastic. If you are referring to the "warp" in the center of the lid, that is there by design. I couldn't find the link, but a Lenovo Blog detailed the reason it is there. In short, there is that little "warp" to act like a cushion under stress as to help the rollcage in not damaging the LCD.
-
My T410 has the same problem as well... did you need to pay 15% restocking fee for getting your new battery? And do you have to return the old battery back to Lenovo?
-
The battery has always wiggled in Thinkpads. If it doesn't fit, then you need to call them and ask for a replacement battery. That shouldn't be a problem.
-
Do I need to send the old battery back to Lenovo? Basically I don't want to pay for the shipment.
-
You can take it to a nearby local Lenovo affiliate support provider by using the link below. If the laptop is still under warranty they will replace it for free. I have done it, before not for the battery, but for something else.
