I updated the new BIOS for T410, then I found SLIC missing, and now Windows 7 can't be activated.
Please don't update the new BIOS: Version 1.12-1.04 http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-74268#main
Is there any one would give me a copy of T410 SLIC? (Don't worry, all the T410 SLICs are the same, no special information included.)
Thank you !
.

Same here.... I've updated bios today and noticed that I cannot activate windows 7...
I received it today...
PS: mine is T510 -
Same here, What should we do? What will lenovo do?
-
If I have a copy of T410 SLIC, I will write it into BIOS with marker tool.
-
The activation will offer you to call in order to activate. If you give them a ring at the provided number and read them the number from the COA sticker at the bottom you'll get it activated.
-
If you have it, please send me a copy. Thanks
-
Thank you ! -
Your email ?
-
PMed, Thanks.
-
so does it mean, don't update? or can i update, if my windows is already activated?
-
Don't update.
-
thx for the answer.
-
You can download the older versions if you scroll down the page. Probably best to do that instead of calling MS.
-
Could you send me a copy? My SLIC is also missing after BIOS update.

I have T410, i updated my bios and im also having same issue with windows 7 activation,
i have reimaged my hdd twice from lenovo recovery windows 7 64 bit dvd's
Do any one have any solution -
Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS back to the old version? They have the files available on their web site.
-
Good news, I update the new bios today through System update 4.0. The missing SLIC is back.
-
what do you mean with new update? i still see the same update. or is it the old update just with SLIC?
-
How did you previously try to update the BIOS? I mean, what method did you use to update the BIOS when the SLIC went missing in the process? Maybe this can help narrow down what method(s) have trouble.
-
I tried to use System update 4.0, but got the error message 'Unable to connect to the Proxy Server'.
-
OK. The following is what I did. I am not sure which step is helpful.
1. update the bios to the latest one (1.12-1.04) by downloading it from the website: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-74268 Then, I find the SLIC is missing.
2. scroll down to the bottom of the download page. download the previous BIOS (1.09-1.04). Flash it and SLIC is still missing.
3. two days later. I install the system update 4.0 and use it to update all the drivers. BIOS is automatically updated to 1.12-1.04. SLIC is back! -
So,what's your current BIOS's version?
-
For those who can't wait for an official Lenovo bios fix, here is the latest bios (1.12) modified by me that includes the missing SLIC.
Note: This is not an official Lenovo bios, so use at your own risk. The only assurance I can offer is that I've tested it on my T410 and it works for me.
Bios with SLIC -
Great and Thanks.
This is not the marker right?
-
It's the full bios, just flash it.
-
So, If I flash the official BIOS, The SLIC will lost again?
-
Thanks darkwish the bios works great on my T410 (2516CTO). SLIC table is back and Windows is activated. Hopefully this issue is resolved in future BIOS updates.
-
Hi,do you have tutorial to modify the BIOS? Thanks

So is this the only way to activate my version of Windows? What happens if I don't activate before the days run out (currently 18 left)? Will windows lock down or something?
-
There is another way:
start the command line with Administrator Privileges and type in:
slmgr -rearm
This extends your "Windows-Trial" for another 30 days!
You may repeat this up to 3 times= 120 days -
darkwish could you also send me the tutorial for modifying the bios. Thanks.
-
Just to let you know boys, that I flashed from 1.09 to 1.15 and it went ok. I have W7 64bit.
-
I went from 1.09 -> 1.12(lost SLIC) -> 1.15 (still no slic) -> darkwish 1.12 (SLIC present) -> 1.15 (SLIC gone again)
=( -
Yup, the only way to get the "official" slic inserted and have it stay when you update is to send your laptop in to get it reflashed.
-
hmm can some1 post instructions how to restore the SLIC. i don't have any clue and i don't feel very secure following the instructions i saw by googling. this bios update would be nice to have it. (faster typing on keyboard and switching monitors on docking station; i still have the old factory installed bios)
-
I would like these instruction as well. Hopefully darkwish will send his method to those interested. -
If you are still using the original factory BIOS, and never attempted an upgrade to 1.12, you probably still have your SLIC table. If your Windows 7 is still activated, you should be fine to upgrade to the latest version. They said they fixed the issue. Still, I think it's safer to install using the CD method. Burn the ISO image of the latest BIOS update to a CD and boot off of it.
Even if you do learn to modify your own BIOS, you'll have to do it every time they come out with a new BIOS. And you shouldn't have to. Pressure Lenovo to come out with a software fix. Or get ready to send your notebook back for an update. I know when and if I ever get in the used market for a T410/T510/W510 I'll be sure to make sure that SLIC marker is there. So to me, not having something the machine came with has already hurt it's resale value. -
I agree that we shouldn't have to modify our own BIOS to put back the SLIC table to keep our original activation. I also understand that it's something we would have to do with every BIOS update but there's no way I'm sending my T410 back to Lenovo to fix this so hopefully Lenovo comes out with a true fix for this issue. Until then I would be satisfied if I knew how to insert the original SLIC table into the BIOS.

Here is 1.15 Bios slic modded.
I may post a tutorial if time permits. Been busy with my classes lately.
T410 1.15 Bios with SLIC -
All,
as you might have read already from various forums, one of the latest Lenovo BIOS updates renders the machine unusable - dead.
Here is one example - http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W510-Bios-1-12-removed/m-p/220434#M7984
This has also happened to me, any "quick" way to get out of this hole before I send the machine back to lenovo??
Your musings would be appreciated.
Andre
PS Machine is a W510 (4319-29G)
Culprit BIOS - v1.15-1.09 from here - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-74582.html -
I am having the same issue of the missing SLIC
but with an X201....
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance! -
Wow, how Lenovo could let something like this slip between the cracks is beyond me. I really hope they fix it soon.
-
Did you use the CD or Windows installer?
I suspect you will have to return it for repair. Failed BIOS updates usually require that. -
There are two issues here: SLIC going missing and someone with a failed update.
The SLIC missing, which this thread is about, has already been fixed on the latest 1.15 BIOS.
The failed update is unusual but not unheard of. I had a dell fail it's BIOS update once, despite having updated lots of PCs, including that one before. It just happens sometimes. Part of the risk of updating your BIOS. -
darkwish could you also send me the tutorial for modifying the bios. Thanks.
-
Have you tried updating to the latest bios? I did and I have no problems with the missing SLIC tables.
-
Can you give me a tutorial too? Thanks very much
i just buy a x201 with no slic table.
-
Me too.
But I think that if ill try the official update it won't work.
And I am afraid of that. -
I got the update from Lenovo.com, and I've had no problems.
T410, update new BIOS, SLIC misssing!
