I recently bought T410- my first thinkpad and the main reason for buying a thinkpad was that they are known to be really solid and sturdy. After owning one for a week now, I am not too sure about their sturdiness anymore.

I am especially annoyed by the little creaking sound from the left palmrest area even with very little pressure. Now I am not sure if it is a manufacturing issue with my unit or a general problem.

Can Thinkpad gurus and fellow T410 users on this forum let me know if this little creaking sound from palmrest around the touchpad is expected and normal?

    Thanks!

Funny, you should mention it, I've had my T410 for a little over a week now, and I haven't noticed until last night, when I sat with it on my coffee table, and was wondering what that squeaking noise was, and well I can see I'm not alone.
Btw. it's gone now, so I'm wondering when it will come back.

Disassmble and reseat the plam rest. The tab needs to click in. But I think its partially because you have an empty slot.

    Another idea:
remove the harddrive cover and see if it changes anything.

He said left side. HDD is on right. Seriously if the palm rest is still 2 pieces like the T61, at the seam near the keyboard there is a clip molded into the plastic. Press the seam and if you hear noise there, then disasseble and reassemble making sure the clip part snaps in properly. I have an empty slot and get no creaking, no flexing. Go to a store and press down on a $3G Vaio and the whole palm rest goes down like thin plastic almost like a paper cup. lol.
