It scores higher then than t400 or the t500, I haven't seen a t510 yet on the website.
But it looks the its the way to go for a 14 inch thinkpad w/light gaming on the side.

To get back to my original thread (this one's totally by hijacked)
:
Anyone know how long UPS takes to ship their laptops when it ships outta Shanghai to the United States (about 100 miles outside of Chicago)?
They shipped it outta Shanghai via "EXPEDITED", yet it has been exported once, and has "departed" Shanghai twice in 24 hours. Yet no estimated delivery date... weird -
As for shipping, I've had a T400 shipped and a few other items that shipped seperately. They were all 2 day and showed up on time from China.
I'm in Dallas, so shipping to the greater Chicago area will likely be the same. The Central timezone tends to be lumped together on shipping estimates.
You will probably see the next update as it heads through Anchorage. After that, Tennesse. I think UPS's main rally center is there.
Good luck and I hope you get it on time. I'm sure the anticipation for you is painful! -
idk about the shipping thing: Your laptop originated from Hong Kong. Mine's coming from Shanghai, so it could easily be very different worlds, especially with shipping routes? I've been waiting for more than 2 days and theres no indication, it has even reached US soil. What really gets me is it doesn't even say when it will arrive. Heck even ground shipments domestically have that. I priced a hypothetical package on their website, for essentially a $100 US shipment, you'd think they'd at least give you a scheduled delivery date! Oh well... -
The incompatability wasn't even on my mind to cross-check. I'll return it. Already ordered the slice. On the W510 with the i7-820QM, the ultrabay's 3 cells would probably give an extra 30 seconds or so anyway
That is odd on your shipment. It's 2-day shipping via UPS, yah? I just looked at the shipping info on a Ultrabay HDD adapter that went out yesterday (HK again). There isn't a delivery date on the tracker, but it's already in Anchorage.
Not sure on the shipping routes. It's got to go by air regardless. -
Thanks!
Ryan -
To get a definitive answer on the W510 specs, your best bet is to find a service manual and inspect the motherboard part in one of the diagrams. Page 128 shows a good picture of that. You can make out the obvious open spaces for the HDD with SATA/power connector. And the larger space with the same obvious connector.
If you go to page 126 of the W500/T500 manual, you see the obvious battery leads along with the SATA/power connector for the Ultra bay. So yeah the T500/W500 can use the bay battery, the T510/W510 can't.
Again, those sales reps are pretty dumb. Their job is to appear sound knowledgeable so you stay assured and they end up selling (thus doing their job!) one to you. But in reality, that's all they really know--how to sell laptops.
Ok, now that I've disclosed that I'm a big nerd because I skimmed through 2 service manuals while posting this, I'm done for the night -
Don't worry man, I just read through the 5 series chipset data sheet trying to figure out what Sony did with the "quad RAID0 SSD" they are putting in the new Z. Answer: 6 SATA channels and RAID0/RAID10 on up to 4 of them ( sections 5.16 and 5.16.6).
If you are a nerd, you are in good company.
I will say that the Lenovo crowd is much better. Some of the Sony folks ain't bright. -
any reports on the battery life with the T410?

hceuterpe's comes in tomorrow unless there are shipping problems (jinx). This is the first state-side delivery I'm aware of. -
What I think is happening:
In Europe you buy preconfigured Thinkpads, which are available and in stock.
Here in the states you can buy your "custom-builts", which takes longer.
And Lenovo is not stupid: since the preconfigs in Europe are more expensive , those will be sold first.

Maybe, but don't forget that Lenovo has a massive corporate following. Demand from a large company can dwindle your parts supply pretty rapidly. Add HP/Compaq and Dell to the mix and things dry up fast.
You right though. There's $ in volume.
Things appear to be loosening up too. -
Nah.. It's not coming today
Silly UPS! -
Just received my shipping confirmation.
It was supposed to ship on 2/16, but they were faster I guess?! -
Well crap. Mine says 2/16 still, but then again, I'm getting a real man's machine
Hope you end up with better shipment service than poor hceuterpe. That thing in Louisville yet?
TinyRK, yours ship from Hong Kong or Shanghi? -
only received shipping confirmation, no tracking number yet! -
-
than have them leave a $1000+ laptop on my front step -
Lenovo is funny, too!
So I ordered my 1st T410 w/o SSD which should ship on 2/16.
Called last Monday to cancel the order, since a new order of mine with a SSD would have shipped on 2/3.
Yes, so the canceled order shipped today
Well, I guess my destiny wanted me to not order a SSD from Lenovo.
Bought one off ebay though
Now I just hope UPS delivers on Friday, otherwise I have to wait till Monday -
Please report back if you can when you get it. -
Trackingnumber is now available:
Well, Wednesday it is... I hope!~ -
-
They should pay more baksheesh to get those babies here faster -
Three shipments and counting for me from Hong Kong. 2 days exactly in all cases.
Maybe since Hong Kong is a special administrative district there are different customs practices or UPS has a different agreement there. "One country, two systems" is the term for it. Might as well be a different country. -
HongKong is not really China, it is more British. At least the way they think and handle stuff.
Geographically it sure is China.
Anyways...
So I guess they are more organized and less pain in the Royal Arse of UPS, and as a result, of us! -
Wonderful! I managed to pickup my T410 last night from UPS after I missed the signature requirement.
I forgot how much junk they put on the factory included Windows installation, so I've been working to clean install Windows 7 Enterprise x64 I have available. So bear with me
I've been in and out with Thinkpad, the last regular usage of one being a T41 a little while back, so I can't make the best comparison, with say a T6x series or the T400.. -
I actually meant to ask you about that after seeing it in youe sig. Why Enterprise? Ent and Ultimate are the same.
Free upgrade perhaps?
Anyway, glad you got it. Enjoy and post pics. -
-
The biggest thing is the licensing. Enterprise is ony available in volume licensing.
I have a TechNet Plus subscription that's why I have access to it for 10 seperate concurrent installations. The other reason is because the company I work for is intending on deploying the Enterprise edition exclusively within the next 18 months. So I like to be familiar with it. -
So what's it like? Build quality, weight, performance? Pictures?
-
Please give us a pictoral review when you get settled in. You'd be the first with a review. -
Geez, Lenovo...
So I have now two canceled t410 coming!
Story:
1st ordered w/o SDD - supposed to ship on 2/16
Canceled order on 1/18 to reorder with SSD.
T410 w/ SSD supposed to ship on 2/3
Received Shipping confirmation for 1st system on the 21st, as a result canceled 2nd order w/ SSD.
Last night received shipping confirmation of 2nd order.
So:
both orders had been canceled at one point and I am still getting them -
so are you paying for either of them, or are they just free?!
If so, and you don't need both of them... -
Lenovo's sales channel is messed up, and/or incredibly primitive. They seem to be unable to properly cancel orders. You should be able to return the unwanted T410(s) without paying any sort of restock penalty. Just call them after you receive the laptops and ask for return authorization, and explain that the orders were canceled and should not have shipped.
-
I ordered 20th January and order status page is showing following information. Let see how long it's gonna take. Everybody is claiming your estimated shipping date will be extend at least one time.
By the way, is there anyone know how can I confirm my build configuration from following unhelpful order status page? Has anyone received wrongly configured system? After hearing lot of bad news about customer service of the Lenovo I'm bit worried. It gonna be my first Thinkpad ever.

Anyone find it interesting that 410 with Nvidia graphics comes with 9 cell standard?
Also can anyone report what WXGA+ 14 screen is like?
I'm currently using a 1200*800 14 (z61t)
I find it odd that I can get a 510 with a bigger screen and lower res then the 410t -
Can anyone confirm:
9-cell sticks out the back
6-cell is flush with machine -
Does anyone know which SSD is offered in the T410?
-
Almost certain the 6-cell doesn't stick out. The 9-cell has only one of the three rows extending beyond the dimensions of the T410. I have to assume would have just 2 rows, and flush. -
So how much does the 9cell stick out?
I plan on ordering the t410 elite and the only battery oipition is the 9 cell -
One row of the thre rows of batteries sticks. Much better than the T400. i think these were almost two?
-
-
Interesting that the 6 cell doesn't stick out. Can someone confirm for sure? B/c I thought for sure that the 6 cell did stick out purely from the last gen's T400. I hate batteries that stick out unless they are at least 9 cell.
-
the t410 is a new design, not just new hardward
the 6 cell does not stick out -
On the website you cannot order the T410s with the 9-cell battery. Does anyone know if the 410s can accommodate the 9-cell battery, or is it only the 6-cell? Thanks
