Yes, it is in the USA.
I'm going to buy another 2GB elsewhere for about $50.
Lenovo sells it for about $75.
I'm a Electrical Engineering student. I would be using some Altera Quartus II, Model-sim, other EE software, a little bit of Solidworks....casual Photoshop, video editing. Vmware.
    Starcraft...possibly SC2.
    What upgrades do you recommend?

2 GB would be fine but get an i5 at least given your program.

My current computer is a Core 2 Duo T7300 2GHz and it works great.
    So I don't think an i5 is really necessary since i3 > T7300.

Hey there, did you check for any coupons? I got mine with a 35% off, which brought the RAM memory at a cheaper price (Canada).

An i3 should be enough altough an i5 would be better of course. The biggest improvement you can do is add an Intel SSD 80GB G2. I know its expensive etc but your computer will be a different experience. I'm an EE student too and was very reluctant about this. However I never regretted getting it, Quartus opens in 2sec, Visual Studio in 3sec, OrCad in 2sec (you get the point). In general everything happens like 3-4times faster than in a normal HDD.

If you can't afford an SSD then you should at least upgrade your hard drive to a 7200rpm. 5200 are very slow and are usually used for media storage. Puting your OS on it would bottleneck your PC by a tremendous amount.

I already have an Intel x25m 80GB SSD. It's great.
How much should I buy RAM for?
