I ordered and quite some time later received ( ;)) a T410s, and have been very pleased with it, but have a couple points of confusion. I've never owned a system with an expresscard slot, but I chose that over the media card reader since I have one of those and wanted the option to use the slot for something else years down the road (maybe a USB3 card or something). I can tell on the left side of the system where the slot ought to be, but it's just a solid fill and I can't see any means of ejecting it or how I would ever put anything inside there. Did I not get an expresscard slot, or do I just not understand how that part works? (I'm rather assuming it's the spot beneath and forward of the headphone jack - it has an icon that looks expresscard-y (like a long rectangle with hash marks on one side). But I guess I don't know how I would open or use it if I wanted to.

Off topic, but I've already discovered that the system shipped without Bluetooth, though that was on my configuration and receipt. Support doesn't yet have my specs so they can't verify that I ordered it (I don't think it was even possible to deselect that option). Bluetooth isn't the most useful utility in the world, but I would use it, and more to the point I want the system to match what I ordered, so I'm not sure how they will resolve that.

Maybe they will ask you to return the machine and will replace it with one that matches your original config? However, how they will compensate you for the time lost (if that is of importance to you) is open to question.

you ought to return the laptop and get the laptop that you configured to be sent to you.

No, it doesn't :( Just looks like a solid placeholder.

It's a 2901-CTO. I'll paste my (ordered) configuration below. It's becoming clear that even though I waited almost two months for this system, they did not ship it as ordered in at least these two respects. Highly disappointing.

you can get your order expedited if they made the mistake in the first instance.

I know this may sound so obvious, but often Bluetooth is switched off when delivered and it doesn't even install until turned on. This catches a few people out.

Is it listed in the Hotkey driver (Fn-F5)?

try this first. I thought bluetooth was forgotten in my configuration, but it was hiding. Fn+F5 and you should be able to turn bluetooth on.

The express card slot. Give it a firm push in. Its a funny sort of spring mechanism that doesnt look obvious from the outside. Give it a firm push and it should spring open.

Bluetooth isn't visible in Fn+F5. I may take off the palmrest etc. and just check to see if it's there and firmly connected.

Thanks for the note on the expresscard slot. It doesn't look like the photo posted above, so I'm not sure what I'm looking at, but the placeholder does slide out. Here's a photo - does this look like an expresscard slot?

    Yes.

The card slides quite a way in.

    yes, that's your expresscard slot
most would have recommended you just order the media card reader
because all that is is an expresscard media reader that sits in your expresscard slot until you want to remove it
so you have a media card reader instead of just that blank piece of plastic
and the media card option is only 10 bucks or so

if you'd ever be interested, you can order that media card reader piece from the parts catalog

But are they really that thick? It looks more like a cavern where a slot should be to me... no release mechanism or anything. The photo posted earlier in the thread looks more like I would expect an expansion slot to look. Not to disbelieve you, just wondering how confident that statement is.

wilse, thanks for your response - I missed it while writing mine. I understand that much better; was just concerned that it looked nothing like the previous photo.

I was also able to fix the bluetooth on my machine by taking it apart and reseating the daughterboard. A little nerve wracking to so thoroughly disassemble a brand new system, but I wanted to see if the device was even present. All seems to be working fine now, gratefully.
