I've looked at all the reviews concerning this machine, pretty much its the one I want. All reviews have positive things to say other than bad screen, bad battery life and the cracking palm rest. :( The palm rest cracking is something I can't over look. The reviews from forum users however have been extremely negative, bad trackpad, heat, feels cheap, not worth $1500+,etc. I've learned to trust forum users since purchasing my Dv5t (heat is ridiculous).

However with the new introduction of the t420s(or some other name) I believe the palm rest will get fixed. What are other annoyances have you experienced when using the t410s. Do you think their will be fixes with the next iterations.

Absolutely love my 410s! I have not experienced any of the problems above. For battery issues when I travel I just use the extra bay battery...with hybrid graphics and low power settings I get 6+ hours. No palm rest cracking, not picky about the screen (I think it looks great)...biggest overall improvement was the SSD...machine is lightning fast. Get it!

No need to get it for $1500, I got mine fully loaded for $1180 (just wait for a good coupon).

Battery Life: Yes its short, on the other hand put an ultra bay battery and its fine.

Palm rest crackling: Yes it exists, I don't mind. Like, I only notice it when I press my hands down hard against the palm rest.

Bad Trackpad: No ing way, tell them to go back to their MacBooks

Heat: It gets warm, but no hot if you have it on a table. If I have it on my bed or something it gets hot, but still nothing crazy. (its an i5, 3.5lbs laptop ffs)

    Feels Cheap: NO comment lol.

Screen Quality: Probably its weakest point. The screen is bad for watching even youtube videos. I've got absolutely no problem though in reading a PDF, coding etc

Do you have the discrete or integrated GPU?

    Thanks

The battery life is short with out the ultra bay. With it it's fine and you can easily get 6 hours.

The track pad is awesome, as is the trackpoint. I love the textured track pad, and that it's flush with the palmrest.

I bought mine as a refurb and it CAME with the palm rest cracked for me already! I swapped it, it hasn't cracked since, but I can see why. The palm rest plastic is strong but extremely thin in the area mine cracked (above the hdd).

Heat is not an issue. I run PM with passive cooling and the underside of the laptop never gets hot, even when on my lap. Warm, but not hot. My recorded coretemp high right now is 47, in bed.

It does NOT feel cheap. It feels premium, with pretty good fitting/tolerances and contruction. Feels like a solid, but super slim/light slab. I think my T400s feels 'nicer' than my T410 did. The screen is thin, but strong. Great firm keyboard, no creaky or flexy spots in the chassis.

What is "PM with passive cooling" sorry for the dumb question?

Sorry, I mean that in Power Manager, I keep the "Optimize Fan Control" on balance all settings, and "System Cooling" on Passive. This keeps the fan spun low and not on often, but I still don't feel the heat! Also I have integrated graphics.

Another happy customer here, I've had my T410s for three months now and since I use it on a desk or table most of the time have no heat issues (integrated graphics version). Also no issues with palm rest cracking. As far as the screen, I'm just happy to have a higher res than 1366 x 768 and the screen is more than bright enough, I'll deal with poor viewing angles by viewing the screen as I normally do -- straight-on. Definitely wouldn't mind having longer battery life, I'm taking a long flight tomorrow and neglected to order the ultra bay battery and know I'll be regretting it when I'm laptopless halfway through the flight. But hey, I'll be bringing the Kindle along as well so reading will keep me occupied the other 3 hours.

Another T410s review incase you missed it, this one from pcper.com

PC Perspective - Lenovo T410s 14-in Core i5 Optimus Notebook Review

One thing to keep in mind with the T410s is it uses a 1.8" harddrive/ssd. 1.8" ssd drives used to be harder to find than the more common 2.5" ssd drives. I'm not sure what it's like now, I haven't looked in a while.

I am another happy T410s owner. I've had no problems and I don't think it feels cheap at all. No cracks but I treat it good so I don't expect any. As far as the screen goes, I calibrated mine and it looks great. It runs cool and quiet (integrated graphics). The keyboard is excellent, as is the track point. I rarely use the track pad but I do like the flush mount with textured surface. It is a fast powerful computer that is super light and easy to pack and carry. I have an extra battery and an ultra bay battery in case I need them but I get over four hours out of the single battery with fairly modest power saver settings. This is usually good enough for me.

They are readily available. Expensive, though.

One more question, I heard the screen was really thin. Would this be a problem if I place it in my backpack with one or two full-sized textbooks or is cracking a real possibility? Should it always be carried on the side not in a backpack?
