I called Lenovo today, and was trying to figure out if I could get an Intel 80GB SSD in the T410s with switchable graphics. They stubbornly said that there was no way that they could help me out and accomplish this.

Is there that much difference in the drives? I'd just love to have an Intel SSD. Or is the switchable graphics not a worth while thing to get? The NVS3100 doesn't seem particularly powerful. I would like to game some, but probably most is going to happen on my home machine.

I am pretty sure that the 80gb ssds in the T410s have been confirmed to be intel, however, there is no guarantee. My guess is that the rep doesn't want to promise something that he isn't absolutely sure you will get and give you a reason to complain about in the future. Almost any ssd is much faster than your standard 5400 rpm hard drive so the differences between intel and whichever you get with your T410s will not be terribly noticeable.

For the switchable graphics, I have it and its a nice thing to have. While you won't be running anything crazy on it, it's great for occaisional games of Team Fortress 2 and the like. The only problem that I am facing is the discrete chip gets incredibly hot after about 20 mins and the graphics start to stutter as (I suspect) the chip throttles itself down to avoid overheating.

I would be coming from a mid 2007 Macbook Pro. How would the NVS3100 compare to the 8600GT that I am used too?

    Thanks

If the drives are 80 or 160GB in size, they MUST be from Intel. On the website, to configure the T410s with switchable graphics, Lenovo only offers Samsung or Toshiba drives (64, 128, 256GB). IMO it depends on the cost of the upgrade, if the SSD is cheap then I'd just take Samsung/Toshiba as they aren't noticeably slower than the Intel. If you have a desktop, don't bother gaming on your T410s and just stick with integrated graphics. I believe the NVS 3100M won't perform too much worse (don't think it will be better though) than the 8600M GT.
