Now that it seems that plenty of T410s with switchable graphics have gone out, I was wondering what everyone's experience was in regards to their temperatures. I am using TPFanControl to get the CPU Temperature.

In regular web browsing, I stay around 45 deg c. However, the discrete GPU seems to make the computer run incredibly hot. When I switch on the nVidia GPU and play some light 3d games, temperatures will build and eventually get up to between 88 and 91 deg c. At this temperature, 3d games begin to run choppy as if the computer is throttling back the GPU to avoid overheating.

I have been unable to find any thermal profile information online, so I am asking some members of the community with this same model of T410s to play some 3d games (I use the "energy star" setting in power manager when I play) and let me know if these temperatures are out of line or if this is par for the course for the T410s.

Thank you all for your help!

What's your ambient temperature (as in, the temperature of the room you're using your laptop in)? Are you using the T410s flat on a desk, on your lap (I hope not  ), etc? You can try propping up the rear of the laptop to help facilitate air circulation - it might help the T410s run a fair bit cooler when on discrete graphics mode.

Ambient is 23 deg c. the T410s is being used on a desk plugged into the series 3 advanced mini dock.

Get TPFanControl (scroll down to the download area) and manually crank up your fan. I don't know about the new ones, but I know on my T60 if I set the fan speed to 64 (yes, I know, it says 0-7, but 64 works) I can get a super high fan speed.

I said in the original post that I was using tpfancontrol. In the tpfancontrol wiki, it says that 64 is an extreme speed that may not be supported. Regardless, this is not a thread on how to increase fan speed, I am just interested if my temperatures are an outlier or the norm for this model of thinkpad.

it should not get above 85 degrees in any circumstances (unless there is a problem), anything above that means that there is some firmware problem or the fan/heat sink is not working properly.
