Hello,
I've got quite an unusual problem with my T410s. The wireless radio powers off on it's own :S and it doesn't power on when I click "turn on" on Lenovo Tools. Additionally I've disabled the "Power off" when unused function.
Anyone had a similar problem?

i have not had this problem
does it do this when you're actively using it? or only when it has been idle for awhile?
if only when it has been idle for awhile, i'd suspect a power manager setting somewhere. i know you checked into that, but it is the most likely culprit in that scenario. -
well I noticed a very wierd thing. This doesn't happen when I'm at my university (Wireless N), while it does happen in my house (Wireless g). Also I'm under the impression that it started happening after an update from Intel...:S

I had this same (perhaps?) problem with the wireless card (6200 AGN Intel in my case) randomly powering off on my T410. The wireless card would appear in the Devices list and show as running, but it would be powered off, and I can't turn it on in the Fn+F5 interface (refuses to turn on no matter what I do). A reboot would fix the issue.
I uninstalled the wireless card driver, and installed an OLDER version of the Intel driver:
13.0.0.107 (dated September 15 2009)
and miraculously, it was solved - no more random wireless card shutdowns.
I still don't know what the cause of the issue is, but it works perfectly now - hope it works for you. -
I'll definitely try this mochaultimate
, I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for the help! -

I'm reasonably confident it'll fix the issue, because it sounds almost exactly the same as the problem I experienced a couple of days ago!
Good luck!! -
Hey,
I tried what you said and unfortunately it didn't work. I spent like an hour trying to figure out whats going on and I'm utterly pissed lol
Intel + Lenovo + Windows
have each Power Saving modes for the Freaking Adapter...that run independently lol.
I'd suggest following the steps in B first, if that doent work start from A->B.
Part A :
As always :S I fixed something and I broke something else. Now my Wireless Adapter doesn't turn off but my speed varies a lot, 250KB/s-520KB/s. Before I was getting a constant 500KB/s.
Here's what I did:
1) tried mochaultimate suggestion (didn't work for me :S)
2) Installed latest Intel drive (still nothing)
3) Went to Event Viewer in control panel and found this:
"WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped.
Module Path: C:\Windows\System32\IWMSSvc.dll"
4) Went to Device Manager-> Network Adapters-> N-6200-> Power Management -> Uncheck automatic shut down
5)Went to: Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings
-> Advanced Power Settings -> Wireless Adapter -> Set to Maximum Performance
6) Everything seemed to work at this point except the varying speed.(in fact I was typing this message, until it @$!%!%$@^@ shut off again!!)
Part B
1) Uninstall the F**** software from Intel: "Intel® PROSet/Wireless software", apparently it runs in the backround as a process and is conflicting with Lenovo Tools. From what I understood it has more control over the Adapter as Lenovo Tools was trying to power it on while it was keeping it off...(I mean Intel wth? it was shutting it down when I was downloading...)
2) It finally worked (I think), I've been downloading at max speed for 30min
3) I forgot to mention that before doing any of these I had gone to ThinkVantage Tools->Internet Connections->Global Settings and unchecked the box that powers off the adapter automatically if idle (it didn't do anything for me as that wasn't my problem but it may help some of you)
gl to all and thanks for the help mochaultimate -

Sorry to hear that it didn't help, but glad to see that you've fixed the problem!

I've been having this exact same problem, after installing the latest update. Along with a window constantly popping up asking me if I wanted to do something related to active management technology, until I started clicking 'no.'
I'll try uninstalling the intel update if it persists (haven't had it in a day or two) -
-
I got the same problem on T410, which starts not by updating intel driver, but after updating windows 7 x64 and Lenovo's Power Manager. I am going to try suggestions mentioned here, except of intel driver rollback.
-
I'm on a T510 btw.
edit:
the reactivation via Fn+F5 doesn't work for me either, but if I deactivate the Ultimate-N 6300AGN on the "Change Adapter Settings" page (it's NOT powered off there) and immediately reactivate it, it works right away. Might help as a workaround before it's properly fixed. -
I finally got it to work when I uninstalled that application from Intel (it was automatically installed during one of those lenovo updates, and was the cause of the problems.) -
Do you mean PROSet/Wireless Tools? I thought those are the drivers the network card require to work?
-
yes and no this is not the drivers.
-
I can also confirm that uninstalling the intel software fixed the problem on my T410. I'll wait another month or so and then try updating it again.
-
I uninstalled PROSet/Wireless Tools via the Control Panel, which removed the driver as well. In the device manager, I could reinstall the driver without the tools, though.
Just now I had one of those random power off again, a few days after the uninstall. While the power off after wake up (at home) is solved (pfew!), I'm still slightly worried that having to de- and reactivate the network adapter may somehow harm it, as my previous laptop (T42p) suffered the same problem, eventually the Wi-Fi ceased to work at all - but only at my home, not in the university. Hmm...
