Firstly, I am unsure if this belongs in the shipping thread, so I apologize if it should be there. Really looking for everyones input, compared to just people that have recently ordered though.

So does anyone have a clue what may be causing such a delay in production? 11/8/2010 is the estimated ship date. That's fully 3+ months away. I have not selected anything out of the ordinary - no touch screen, 2x2gb ram, 80gb SSD.

    Thoughts?

The Lenovo site is known for errors.

8-11-2010 is American format the rest of the world does dd/mm/yyyy

im guessing they are using global format and telling you it will arrive on the 11th of august. mines on the 10th

Wellllll, I would like to believe this is the case. However, I just spec'd another machine (now one day later) and proceeded through checkout to the estimated ship date page.

    It now reads: 11/9/2010

An ominous sign. If Lenovo really was using dd/mm/yyyy, then you would expect an order placed one day later to show 12/8/2010 (Aug 12). Now dd/mm/yyyy reads September 11, 2010.

Why does the rest of the world think that's the logical format?

I can understand putting the year or the month first for sorting, but day? That's just odd.

it makes more sense then mm/dd/yyyy, you're going in order or increasing magnitude.

What did the "ships within xxx days" message say when you were ordering? The estimated delivery date is usually wildly inaccurate. I ordered a W510 on July 20 when it said "ships within 9 business days." My estimated delivery date was Sept. 1st. It's currently in customs and it should be here this week :).

well, i called lenovo support the day after i ordered the laptop. talked to a sales person, escalated to a supervisor. explained 3 month wait simply was unacceptable. said he would check with the weekly supply team and see what he could do.

called back 2 days later, as instructed, and talked to same guy. told that my laptop would ship august 19th (i was cool with that at the time).

    Good news!

Estimated delivery is tomorrow, Aug 9!

edit: for the record, i selected 2 day express shipping. for $25 dollars, on a $1700 dollar machine, i felt it was negligent. note that i am not typically the type of person to select express shipping

Here is my story. I live in Ajax, Ontario, Canada.

Firstly, I called Lenovo, and their date system is dd/mm/yy.

    - So I ordered a Thinkpad T510 & a carrying case for it on 02/08/10 (Monday August 2nd).
    - My "Status" under "Open and recently shipped orders" was "Submitted".
    - On 04/08/10 (Wednesday August 4th) I got an email saying the carrying case had shipped.
    - On Friday 06/08/10 a courier company called Quest attempted to deliver the case, but I wasn't home. I rescheduled for them to deliver it on Monday 09/08/10. It came no problems, it was shipped from inside of Ontario. I then checked the Lenovo web site. Under "Order Status" it was like this:
Later that day I got an email stating the laptop had shipped.
    - The "Order Status" remained "Submitted" until Thursday August 12th, and then it changed to this:
    - I called and asked them what "Estimated ship" meant and they said that it is the estimated date that the item will leave the warehouse and "Order Status" shows when it has actually shipped. So I asked for a tracking number and they gave it to me. The UPS tracking said this:
    - There is a very good change it will arrive Friday August 13th. If not, Monday August 16th.

Ok, well, my "Estimated Ship Date" most certainly was November 8, 2010. This was confirmed on the phone with a Lenovo supervisor.

The laptop arrived this morning, 10:30am local time. While I am not positive that my phone call / threat to cancel my order made a difference, I suspect it did.

The T410s so far is nothing short of amazing. I am a mobile person, not ultramobile, so the X201s was not as appealing. I am thrilled with the laptop and we are getting used to each other as we speak :)
