I have another t410s on order, (first one is being returned due to a bad lcd), and am curious about this ThinkPad Serial Hard Drive Bay Adapter III, $59.95 through the lenovo store. I already ordered the additional ultrabay 3cell battery, and will have the Intel SSD 80gb as the primary/boot drive.

First, it says this is for the t400s, will it work ok with the t410s, or are they planning a new version?

Second, what size hard drives fit in this, 1.8 or 2.5 form factor? and it there a max capacity, gb, or max power draw for a hard drive you would put in their, for example could you put a Seagate Savvio 10K.3 ST9300603SS 300GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SAS 6Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive in there, and in theory would it work?

Also, it there a limit on transfer speed, 1.5gbs, 3gbs, or 6gbs?

    Thank for any help

that part will fit just great in the t410s
    it uses 2.5 inch drives
and, due to hardware in the t410s, you should use 3gbps drives

SAS drives will not work. You need a 9mm height 2.5" sata hdd for the ultrabay 2nd hdd adapter. The internal drive in the T410s is 1.8".

No, desktop/server drives will work due to the laptop only supplying 5V power to the HDD. Plus typically they're much taller.

SAS will definitely not work. But even SATA/150 or SATA/300 drives, such as WD Velociraptor, require 12V power. Interface is one thing, but that's usually not the issue here. The biggest thing is height clearance and power connectors.

So what's the consensus here? I'm looking on NewEgg and such for SATA/300 drives (2.5" form factor) but no idea if the height and power requirements are ok for the ultrabay on a T410. Most of these dont even list the height/power.

if it is a standard 2.5" notebook drive, it will work fine

Would anyone mind linking me to a recommended l5400rpm hard drives which would be compatible? I'm having difficulty finding a proper one that will fit with the Serial adapter.

Go to T series product page, click on PDF for T410s. The P/N is at the end of the doc.

I use this adapter in my T400.
I have a WD Scorpio Black 320 GB in it. You need 2.5" 9.5 mm SATA drive.

And the T410s appears to be the last machine that will use an ultrabay second battery. They have eliminated it on the T410 and T510.
