I've had my trusty T41p since early 2004. As of today, the screen went _extremely_ dim, and then a few hours later, it went black, as if it was off. If I toggle the screen on and off with the fn shortcut I can occasionally get something to show up, but it's just barely there, and immediately goes back to black within a quarter second.

I haven't done any driver updates or changed anything on the laptop within the last three months.

Has my screen simply worn out?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If it's no longer under warranty and you are comfortable with taking your Laptop apart, or have a close friend you trust who is try checking the connections to the screen.

Try moving the screen back and forth like your closing it a few times. If your screen's backlight sometimes comes on then its likely a loose connection/bad ribbon cable to the monitor and relatively inexpensive fix.

    Thanks for the replies!

I have tried moving it back and forth, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. However, if I shine a bright light at the screen, I can see the desktop and any programs that are running.

I happened to find this on google: http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/01/31/replace-screen-inverter-fix-backlight

...which seems to describe my problem exactly. Considering inverters are only $15-20, I might replace the current one and see what happens.

    Sound like a decent idea?
