I am trying to decide between the T42 2373H6U, 2373HBU models currently in the "special offers" section of the IBM store and the compariable T43 models.
The biggest differences between the t42s and T43s that I am looking at is the processor. The 1.8Ghz (T42) and 2.13 Ghz (t43). The price difference seems to be about $600-800.
Is the processor bump-up worth the money?
I am a developer (Websphere and Domino) so I need a little horsepower to run dev versions of these server apps.
I also plan to get 4 years of use out of this new machine, (that is what I got out of my T23) so if the CPU does make a noticeable difference, I can probably justify the extra cost.
Thanks for any help. :decision:

The CPU itself makes little difference, but the motherboard, chipset, and the faster DDR2, X300 video card and PCI Express card together with the faster CPU may make "huge" difference. Since in four years, the PCI Express/PCI Express card may replace the current PCI and PC-Card completely and the S-ATA HD will be the main stream.
Or if you can use T23 a little longer and wait anoth 5+ months, you can get the Yonah-based Thinkpad (T50 and up) with dual-core CPU in late 2005/early 2006 and later a dual-core 64-bit CPU after Yonah later next year.
I was surprised that the T42 is equipped with ATI 7500 Video card, my T40 came with an ATI 9000 (32MB) video card!
By the way, as a power user, I'd suggest to have a look at Acer's Travelmate 8103 or 8104 series, you get the most performance at a very reasonable price. (higher resolution, much better ATI X700 (128MB), and larger 5400rpm HD)
T42 1.8 GHz or T43 2.13 Ghz worth the $s?
