This new version of the T line for IBM really has me interested not so much because of the Dothan,
but more because of the new screen size of 15.1" on a thin and light, and the 1600x1200 native
resolution. I do have a few question if anyone could maybe answer them.

    1. With a native resolution of 1600x1200 that is the optimal resolution for the LCD, but will
changing the res to 1280x1024 or 1024x768 make the text look weird? I ask this because I know
on LCDs where the native res is 1400x1050 changing the res will cause the text to look strange,
but 1400x1050 is an odd res where as going for 1600x1200 to 1280x768 seems natural.

    2. Does anyone have a pucture of what the text on a 1400x1050 LCD or a 1600x1200 LCD looks like when not
    in the native res?

    3. When changing for the native res to some other res, does it matter what the different res is or does it
just matter that it is not the native res?

I know this a long and maybe tiresome post, but if anyone could answer these questions for me I would greatly
    appreciatte it. TIA.

Paul, I agree that the 15.1" monitor will be a nice feature set add for the upcoming T42. In an attempt to answer all of your questions in one fell swoop, no matter what the res is on a notebook LCD if you set it to a lower res you'll experience less definition and more blurring of text as you go to a lower resolution and as a rule of thumb the lower you set the res (away from the native res) the more blurred it will become.

Sorry, I have no pictures to back this up though!

Highest you should go on 15" is SXGA, UXGA is way to small. I had UXGA on a 16.1" and it was bordering illegible, makes you squint too much.

With LCDs, the native resolution is the advertised (highest possible) resolution. Abaxter is right when he says you'll lose quality and make things blurry if you get a UXGA and knock the resolution lower. You're only option is to go into accessability settings and display settings and turn up font sizes, although this can make things display oddly.

Try to get SXGA+ if possible, it's just right (stuff too large with XGA, too small with UXGA).

The only other resolution that will look proper on a 1600x1200 resolution screen, is 800x600, as this is an exact multiple of 1600x1200. In that case, four LCD pixels will be used to display every one pixel of the screen data. On other resolutions, you will experience artifacts, as they do not fit evenly into the native screen resolution.
