So the hinge on the left broke on my T42 Thinkpad. :( The positive - I can now buy a new laptop without feeling guilty. This one was running great.

The negative - still gotta use this one for a few weeks until the new one arrives. Is this fixable?

the bad news: you should not buy a new laptop just because of the hinge. It is incredibly easy to replace! Find the part on ebay and change it yourself. I did it and it took 5 minutes.

no new computer for you :(

Hahhaha...iiiiii know....but this forced me to do a little poking around. Checked the lenovo outlet and there's a gem in there that I might just buy that's not out of my budget. I ordered the part and will absolutely fix this one and use it as a backup/test computer, but I'm seriously considering upgrading. Would be lovely to have something lighter and faster running Windows 7. This T42 has served me well since 2005.

yes the T42 is a great machine, but it comes a time when you would need to upgrade to a better machine.
