Unless you care a whole lot about the widescreen, media card reader and firewire that comes with the Z60t (and they are nice features to have) then the configuration on that T42 is certainly nicer and the 3yr warranty versus the 1yr warranty is a big deal. The battery life is going to be better on the T42 as well (I'm assuming it's 14" screen T42 correct? if it's 15" then battery life might be worse). That dedicated graphics card on the T42 is nice to have too. You'd have to upgrade the RAM to at least 512MB on the T42, but that'd be less than $100 if you bought through NewEgg.com or Crucial.com.

Thanks for your advice,14" screen correct. Concerning weight and size I'm wondering is there much difference? X series would solve that concern I guess, just appears more money and not the 'nicer' options of the T42. Seems it is the better value, just hate to later realize I should have gone for lighter/smaller unit. Less than 5 lbs. would be ok. Again thanks................

cvcnbr, You just saved me about $600, seriously. I was about to pull the trigger on this configuration at amazon.com for ~$2180, and the only difference was 512mb RAM on the amazon config versus 256mb RAM on the one I ordered. Won't be spending (even close to) that much to increase the memory to full capacity.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! :)

Pulled the trigger directly from the vendor instead:

You might be able to get it cheaper on ebay if you look around. Just make sure you buy form a reputable seller.

It seems like a nice price to me. Is it from the recent Lenovo sale (25% off) ?

Its from the link cvcnbr posted a few posts earlier. I changed to a 6 cell battery. Then like others bought 2gb of Crucial RAM from newegg for $240. So ~$1750 total for:

    T42 14.1 SXGA
    ATI Radeon 9600
    60GB 7.2k RPM
    2GB Crucial CL2.5 DDR PC2700
    6 cell battery

Lenovo's site says ship date is 10/14. That's $30 less than what I paid for the z70va I just returned.

A 9600pro is not going to cut it for graphics. Anybody purchasing a T42/3 for graphics needs either an x300 or x700. The 9600 is outdated and probably a waste. Same with the ATI 7500 if they are still selling this card as well.

A 9600 is gonna cut it for most stuff. It runs GTA San Andreas at 1400x1050 with minor slowdowns and at 1024x768 without a hitch. Not the most intense thing, I know, but it's still gonna work with about everything at low-med settings. X300 is actually worse than 9600. And up until very recently, the only thing better than 9600 offered on the T-series was the FireGL, only on the expensive P-models.
