here are some options that I'm facing:

    T42 1.8Ghz 1GB RAM 80 GB, ATi FireGL 128MB, bluetooth

    T43 2.26Ghz, 1GB RAM, 80GB 7200 RPM, ATI FireGl v3200 128MB

    or

    T60 1.83 Dual Core, 512 RAM, ATi x1300 64MB, 60GB, bluetooth

the T43 and T60 are almost the same price, the T42 is a little cheaper though.

I'm having a hard time deciding if I should go with the dual core or the other T's

I get less better video card and smaller RAM and hard drive capacity if I go with the T60, but better processor.

    Any suggestions?

Budget will also be a big factor cause the T60 are pricey at the moment.

mostly work. No games probably and not too many graphic applications. Maybe just some video encoding, and I'm planning and use it for Vista Beta, with the wish to be able to run all the full graphic Vista themes.

the budget is not a big problem, plus I'm using my friends EPP discount and they all come down to somewhere $1300+tax.

Then by all means get the T60.

If one was going to do a bit of gaming, say, World of Warcraft or something similar, would the 128MB FireGL card in the T40's be enough to make that work?

I recently purchased a T43 for $1499 that was on sale from $2,499 but heck, if they're all about the same price for you then the performance gain of the T60 would outweigh any benefit of the others. You'd definitely need to add 512MB of memory to the T60 though, 512 isn't enough.

If you are spending anything over a $1K, get the T60. I have used the T43 for years. It a great machine, but not as fast as a T60. I have a T60 2Ghz & 2GB of RAM. Its much faster than the fastest T43 that I have used.

Just add some more RAM, 2 or 4 GB. The benefit is you can add the max of 4GB RAM.

T43 on Ebay for around $600.

    Go for the T60!

I will be swapping my two 1GB memory modules for two 2GB = 4GB of Ram. You are now at the top of the Food Chain when it comes to speed.

I am sure both of you are not doing this deliberately, but as another user pointed out, this thread is 1.5 years old. It is a bit late to answer the OP's (Original Poster) question now :)

rbc555erc you seem to have revived old threads with the 3 posts you've made so far. Not necessarily a bad thing, but in your case, you are trying to help people who have moved on long ago. So a friendly piece of advice is to look at the top left corner of each post to see when it was posted.

And welcome to the forum btw.

    Guys,

Please don't revive old threads. The "problem" is most likely solved and/or the information is outdated.

    Thx
