    Hi All,

I bought R40 (for home use) at the end of '03 and so far had no major problems with it. Recently, an LCD backlight went out and thankfully, it was still under warranty. My R40 now has 640MB Ram, 16MB Video, 1.8G P4-M chip and 60G 5400 RPM harddrive.

I also have a T42 (given to me by my company), which is leased and which I just got. It has 512MB Ram, 32MB Radeon 7500 Video, Centrino P-M 1.7G chip and 30G harddrive (not sure about the speed).

Both TP's are provided with 14.1" XGA screen.

It seems like these machines are somewhat similar in battery life, but the screen in T42 seems to be a little better than the screen in R40.

The colors on the T42 appear richer (may be due to the 32MB vs. 16MB video card?) but it is noticeable only when the notebooks are side by side.

Which leads me to the question about R52's. I read the review recently, which basically said that the screen in R52 was disapointing. Those of you that have or have seen R52's are the screens worse than T4x series?

Any of you bought R52 because you did not like T4x series?

    Thanks,
    VK

    i bought r52 instead of t4x because:
    -. 600 cheaper for .5kg heavier
-. heard rumours that r52 should be quieter than t4x and less hotter

Thanks for your reply. How do you like the screen colors/brightness?

Did you have a chance to see/feel T4x before buying R52?

The two notebooks are still of very good quality... but the T series, of course, is of the highest build.
In theory, they should produce roughly the same amount of heat, with the T series being HOTTER, yet quieter.

In terms of screen quality, yes, the T series should have a better screen.
People who say they are disappointed with the screen though, are probably spoiled by the glare-type screen on other notebooks in today's market... matte screens are matte screens; they're great for indoor/business purposes.

To be honest though, I would personally get a T series over an R series notebook; not because of screen quality, but because of overall build quality.
