I'm buying IBM Thinkpad T42 laptop (model 2373-FWG). I currently have T21 with new Western Digital Scorpio WD400VE 5400RPM hard disk with 8MB cache.

What drive is in that T42? I was just thinking if the Scorpio is better than T42's drive, I could swap the drives between my current and future laptops.
Is there any difference between T42's drive and WD Scorpio WD400VE? Speed? Heat? Noise?
I've read that Scorpio's are the quietest laptop drives on the market but I don't know about the speed or heat.

Never used a WD notebook hard drive so no comment there. ThinkPads tend to use Hitachi drives since IBM sold their hard drive business to Hitachi. You might want to head over to SilentPCReview.com, they tested some drives in regards to the noise levels.
