I'll be living in the U.S. the next 6 months, and I still need to decide which notebook to get. After owning a T40 previously, and testing a MacBook (which I was not satisfied with, but that's another story), the choice was clear: Another Thinkpad it is. Prices in Germany aren't comparable to the U.S. ones, so my choice is somewhat limited:

    - T42 (P M 2 Ghz, 512 MB, 14" 1024 768) @ 1099€
    - T60 (Core Duo 1,82 Ghz, 512 MB, 14" 1024x768) @ 1295€
    - Z60t (P M 1,7 Ghz, 512 MB, 14" 1280x800) @ 1149€

My main issue with both the T42 and T60 is the screen size, which is too small. The Z60t looked like a winner, were it not for it's low battery life and the not so great build (compared to a T model; that's what I read at least). A T60 with a SXGA display would be my favorite choice, but that comes to 1500€ (and that is with an education rebate already).

I'm very tempted to just buy one (T60 with SXGA or a Z61t) when I'm over there, but I'm not sure how exactly the warranty would play out back in Germany, and I don't want to go through the hassle of having to change the keyboard to a German one.

    Any ideas/suggestions/comments?

get the t60. if you need more screen space hook up an external monitor. if you're not in a place where it's possible to hook up an external monitor then you'll likely be happy with the smaller form factor.

There are models with international warranties, depends on the machine type. They also make larger and modular batteries for the Z61t.
