    I am on Windows 7 and I am missing a driver. After researching my problem, it seems that I am missing the Ricoh Multi Card Reader driver ( Ricoh Multi Card Reader Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad T420, T420i, T420s, T420si, T520, T520i, W520, X1, X1 Hybrid, X220, X220).

I've tried installing the driver but after I restart, device manager still indicates that I am missing the driver for Base System Device. I did not receive any errors from the installations process. I'm faily certain that the driver I'm missing is for my card reader since Windows fails to recognize an expresscard device. Device Manager does not show Ricoh PCIe Memory Stick Host Controller under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers category either.

I've already tried installing the driver from safe mode. I also tried installing all the recommended updates from System Update.

I am unsure of what I should try next and would appreciate any suggestions.

Here are the Hardware IDs, for what it's worth:
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E822&SUBSYS_213317AA&REV_08
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E822&SUBSYS_213317AA
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E822&CC_088001
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E822&CC_0880

Not sure if it helps, but my product ID is 4177CTO

    Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E823&SUBSYS_21FA17AA&REV_04

    Ricoh SD Disk Device
    PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_E823&SUBSYS_21FA17AA&REV_04\4&34f408a6&0&00E0

It is from my X230, and it looks like it is the SD card reader. I didn't have issues installing the driver though on Windoze 8

I booted up my laptop today and I don't have any yellow exclamation marks in Windows, but I don't see the card reader either. Apparently it's supposed to show up under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers but the only device that shows up under that category is the mobile express chipset.

I looked at risdxc.inf for the card reader driver and it also specified DEV_E823. I added some lines to include my Hardware IDs. Here are the changes I made (bold lines are what I added):

I made these changes after the card reader stopped showing up in device manager.

By the way, this is the driver I need to get my expresscard slot to work right? If not could someone let me know what driver I need for the expresscard slot and where the device shows up in device manager?

    Thanks in advance.

    UPDATE
I deleted the CARDREADER folder in SWTOOLS and reinstalled the drivers. Now Unknown Device shows up in device manager (same hardware IDs).

I figured this out and I'll edit this post with the solution when I have time.

How do I mark a thread as solved?
