I am about to buy this 12.7mm adapter Ultrabay SATA 2nd Hdd Lenovo ThinkPad T420 T520 12.7mm on eBay.ca (item 120711487081 end time 13-May-11 11:13:54 EDT)

I was wondering, would the following HDD fit? NCIX.com - Buy Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB SATA2 5200RPM 8MB Cache 2.5 Notebook Hard Drive OEM - Western Digital WD - WD10TPVT - in Canada

It says This product is 12mm thick; ie thicker than other notebook normal hard drive. Some people are saying it's pretty tall and exactly 12.4/12.5mm.

Have you tried measuring the height of the bay in your T420? We know that it will take a 12.5mm high optical drive but did Lenovo still leave a little clearance so that it will take a 12.5mm thick HDD plus the thickness of the adaptor base? My T420s has this extra clearance which is why it can take a 9.5mm HDD sitting in the bay adaptor. Or rather than try to measure the bay height, is there a small gap between the optical drive and the bay?

The bay's height is about 13mm. There is a very small gap between the optical drive and the bay, but im not going to risk it. I already have a 9.5mm traditional laptop hdd (the stock 250gb) so I will put that in the adapter once it arrives and then see if an extra 3mm would fit.

Come to think of it, that 12mm HDD might be available at a local store so I'll probably be able to try it out. If it doesn't fit I'll get a 9.5mm 750gb.

    Thanks
