    Hey guys,

My T420 came in the mail today and to my dismay, it came with a Sanyo battery... I've had bad experiences (very fast degradation) with the 9 cell Sanyo in my T400 and was wondering if the 9 cell Sanyo in the T420 was any different.

that would be something you would know only after a year or so, when the charge cycle clocks up. Given that the T420 machines are only around for couple of months, then you are not going to get a realistic feedback about the real quality of the battery.

go into your Thinkvantage Power Manager, you can check the battery info under the battery tab (make sure you are in advanced view).

Well on my T400, the battery was fine for maybe 2 months or so and then it started to degrade very quickly. My friend also had a T400 with a Panasonic battery, except it was a 6 cell. He has used it for 2 years with 400 something cycles and he has only lost 1-2 WH of capacity on it, unlike my Sanyo- which has around half of its designed capacity with ~180 cycles.

Panasonic battery is the best battery, those one from my T40 is still live and kicking. The one on my T400 has already died after only 190 charges.

Since the W520 uses the same battery, though I should give some feedback.

I have a Sanyo battery with my W520, and I don't use it much to be honest. I have about 6 cycles on it, and it is usually stored in a drawer at 40% charge. It shipped with a capacity of 93.84Wh according to Power Manager, and now has a capacity of 93.75Wh. I got the machine in May, and the battery was made some time in April.

Ah, I see. Thanks for your feedback. I'm just a little bit concerned about it, since I will be going to college this fall and I need the battery/computer to last for a few years... since I'll pretty much be broke for the next 4 years...

I'm starting university in a little over a month, too. :p

I'm not too worried about it, but I would much rather use that $150 ~ 200 towards something else, like, more food or something. I plan on replacing my machine in 4 years, so I'm hoping that I only have to replace the battery once at most.

Looks like I'm one of the lucky people with the panasonic battery. I only have 15 cycles on it though so I can't really give real numbers.

When I got my 2 refurbished Z61t's, my heart fainted when I saw 2 Sanyo 7 cell batteries. After about 6 months use on one, and 2 months on the other, I saw ~2-3% charge wear, and they only came with 1% charge wear.

Sanyo battery's quality fluctuates all over the place, which is one reason i hate it so much. It is like playing the Russian Roulette.

You would think they would be better by now considering Panasonic bought them several years ago. It's really the same company! I guess they simply haven't updated the manufacturing lines.

My T420 (purchased in April) comes with a Sanyo 9 cell battery. Currently it has 32 cycle counts and approx 1.25% wear already (85.51/86.58 Wh).

I have an LGC, which is currently listing as 93.52 Wh, with a design capacity of 93.6 Wh. Are these batteries really that far off from each other in terms of designed capacity? Anyone have experience on LGC batteries?
