So I just ordered the T420 with Intel WiFi Link 1000, but I'm wondering if I should have gone for the next available upgrade, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 AGN. Are there significant differences in strength, or signal?

My current laptop, from four years ago, has the Broadcom 802.11 b/g WLAN and has never caused me any problems. Based on this, would the Intel WiFi Link 1000 be sufficient for my needs, or should I call them and make a revision to my order knowing that the upgrade is only $20?

    Thanks.

If it's already in production, I don't think you can change it after the fact. Intel 1000/1030 I've seen have poor signal/slow speeds, I would pay for the 6205, it's a better card (if you can).

You should be fine with the Intel 1000. In fact, if you want maximum battery life, stay with the 1000. If you upgrade at all, upgrade all the way to the 6300 for high-speed N (450 Mbps).

"Revising" an order would usually mean canceling it and place a new order, though.

As long as it's an Intel card, it should be fine. I've had poor experiences with the Realtek Thinkpad b/g/n cards, but the Intel WiFi 1000 is perfectly fine. My friend has it in her Thinkpad T420, and it works well. Revising the order at this point probably isn't worth the hassle.

What about the 60 W vs. 90 W? The upgrade to 90 W is free.

You're talking about the AC adapter? The 65W adapter is a bit smaller and lighter, while the 90W adapter will likely enable you to charge your battery slightly faster. Doesn't make much of a difference either way; personally I'd take the lighter adapter.

I got a T420 2 weeks ago and I'm struggling getting good signal/speeds, whereas with my old T61 I had no issues and no drop in connection, the card was a Thinkpad bg (Atheros chip), It's frustrating to have this issue
