Hey Fellas, why is my T420 with the I5-2410 mhz clockspeed @ only 797mhz and it never goes up to its max speed and turbo boost speed. The multiplier is suppose to be at x23 @ 2.3ghz, but it is stuck at x8 797mhz

Checked w/ both cpu-z and hwinfo32 and the clock speed is just stuck @ 797mhz.

I have it on Max Performance and Min/Max CPU @ 100% and the clock speed issue remains even before and after windows updates.

    1. Did you, by chance, remove the battery? If so, the BIOS will lock the CPU speed to the minimum.

    2. Try running a benchmark such as wPrime and see if the CPU speed increases.

This is a common problem on a variety of laptops.

Try using ThrottleStop and it will likely fix this problem.

Have you checked what plan you are on in Lenovo's power manager? If you go by power source optimized or battery life, it won't let the cpu go over 800. I would advise you create your own plan to fit your needs.

Power Source Optimized allows full speed when running on AC. It's my normal profile.

He never clarified whether he had this problem with the AC on or off. I was assuming he may not have had the AC on and looked at the clock rate.
