I have a recently purchased T420 that is giving me some issues with watching movies. Every 5 minutes or so I get a "buffering" action going on. The movie gets stuttery for a few seconds then continues. Is this happening to anyone else?

    My config
    i5-2420
    6gb ram
    250 gb HD
    integrated graphics

What program are you using to watch movies? Are you streaming from the internet?

Im am using windows media player to watch downloaded movies. They are avi's. They are the same movies/shows I watched on two previous computers that were much much weaker than my t420.

How many monitors are connected to the laptop? (if any)

Also, what do you mean by buffering? Does the computer say 'buffering' or does it only look like it is possibly buffering.

Nope no external monitors. By buffering I mean choppy and some freezing for a few seconds.

I think I figured it out. The choppiness seems to come whenever I move the laptop slightly. For example if its in my lap and I laugh a little, the movement causes the choppiness. Im thinking this might be due to thinkpad active protection system.

Yeah, that makes sense. Happens with my X61T.

That's happens to both of my thinkpads... I never asked why.
Doesn't answer your question, but just that you're not alone.

Best way to prevent that is to tweak your Active Protection settings. Right click on the AP icon in your System Tray (it's the HDD "platter/can" icon with the green play button) and open up the options. There, you can choose between a few different sensitivities.
