I've been looking at the following systems:
    Thinkpad X220
    Thinkpad X220 Tablet
    Thinkpad T420

I particularly want long battery life. The T420 has longer battery life than the others (according to Lenovo, 30 hours). The X220 has the IPS screen is very nice and small and I've heard the keyboard is very nice which is unique to computers of that size. The X220T is pretty much the same as the X220 but with a screen that flips and there is a wacom digitizer pen. I will be using the laptop for Development and I also need portability. I will also use it for web browsing and other stuff. I might try some games but I won't be disappointed if it can't play them. The Tablet feature is really cool on the X220T. I think all thinkpad's look awesome (atleast those thinkpads with the classic look to them.) So basically, I'm looking for something with decent processing power, something that can handle flash, and something with really long battery life. The extra features such as the Tablet multitouch screen are a nice touch but aren't necessary. Should I be worried about the screen quality of the T420?

    Thanks.

Hmmm, for the extra money of the tablet feature, I don't think it's really worth it unless you really use it. Haven't the experience, but I think the touch screen will get old after the initial wow and cost a whole bunch more. Perhaps stick a SSD in one of the other ones with the money?

Okay, but if I rule out the tablet option, I can still choose between the X220 and T420. Any recommendations of which notebook I should buy? Also, does anyone have good coupons and deals that I should go for?

    Hi bifnewman :p ;)

One thing maybe worth considering is the thin HD bay in X220, which fits only 7.5mm drives without modding (and they are relatively rare). You can use the mSATA SSD in them tho. Tablet functionality is cool for taking notes and making some sketches. The only thing I am missing with the tablet is being able to somehow rotate it by 90 degress while I'm typing for more space if I am coding but its all right.

Otherwise I think you can't go wrong with any of these 3. :)

oh yeah, you said you need battery life. How much? those times you quote are using that slice battery, which makes things less portable. The 9 cell on the X220 offers something like 15 hours reported (probably like 10-12 hours or something real life). Think this is much more than the t420

Taking notes on the tablet seems really cool. Are there any good features that the T420 has that I should know about? Price wise, what would be the best bang for buck?

I'm interested in using the slice. The T420 has 30 hour battery life advertised.

I nearly got the X220 tablet.

But finger-digitizer (not the pen one) reportedly slightly obscures the display. Especially given I was getting the IPS display either way, I decided I didn't want to detract from that.

And, the Tablet doesn't allow the USB 3.0 port.

Also, when I bought it, the X220 was on sale and the Tablet wasn't; it would have cost me almost $1000 more.
I decided to spend that money, in the future, on an Android pad.

I'm very happy with the X220 I got; the display is wonderful, the keyboard is great, the trackpad is almost great. And the battery life is about 6 to 7 hours.

Can't you get the slice for the X220 also?

I think I've decided on the T420, I watched a youtube video review on it and it looks awesome and exactly what i want.
