Is there a list of compatable IPS screens for the T420? I have the 1600:900 LG but would like to upgrade to something without such horrible viewing angles. Is the Samsung screen any better? Is there any other 14in panels that are compatable?

To the best of my knowledge there are no IPS LCDs that are compatible with the T420. I don't know that any of the screens are significantly better than the next.

What about the new T440 panel? Think it would be compatable?

    Not by a long shot.

    Different cabling, connectors...everything.

Such a shame. You can have IPS or trackpad buttons, but not both.

Best Plug 'N Play Display is the Alienware M14x panel. It's a above average TN with good contrast and viewing angles. Also no screen door effect.

This looks like a great screen. I will look further into it. Have you made the swap?

I myself haven't but I know a guy who tried. However, as it turns out the Alienware M14x panels sold on ebay seem to be lemons. (bad TN's) Apparently there are several model numbers. Even if you look for the correct one you might end up getting the wrong display. So the only way of being sure that you'll get what you want is removing the display from an Alienware M14x. Theoretically you could buy one of those, remove the screen, put in your T420 screen and sell it again.

Your 2. best option is the X1 Carbon screen which is an above average TN as well and matte, but with the screen door effect. However, installing it is slightly more difficult. There used to be a thread floating around here somewhere: http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo/682490-x1-display-t430.html

    German Forums: T4xx X1C Panel in T420(s)/T430(s)

The TE of the German thread has successfully installed the X1C panel in his T420s.

    Indeed.
