I was trying to watch video through hdmi output connected to Sony TV. when I close the lid, the video stops though I see the desktop on the TV.

May I know what could be the reason?

If I restart the PC connecting the hdmi output, the video doesn't stop for the first time after closing the lid. Reopen the laptop and close, the video stops.

Any setting required to keep the video playing even after closing the lid?

Your settings are such that the internal display is by default the main display, and the TV is an extended display. When you close the lid, the TV becomes the main display (because the internal display shuts off). The main solution is simply to restart the video in fullscreen while the TV is the main display, which, again, happens when you close the lid.

You are right. That seems to be the exact problem.

How to make TV as main display?

As you've described, just close the lid :)

And when you want the internal display to be the main one, open it up again.

That's the problem. If I close the lid, the video stops playing on the tv. I am using power DVD to play blue ray movies.

After closing the lid, the power DVD software simply stops the video.
