I am trying to decide between the two too use in the office. I am professional and will use it for light business use. Either of them might be overkill but I like the quality of the thinkpad..

Question is the 12.5 vs the 14 " is that a big difference in real life..

    I have a x201 at home I love it

So in general does the 14" give you a lot more viewing space than THE 12.5?

I kind of feel like going with the x220 for the weight, because I don't like heavy big laptops, but the screen size to use in the office has me concerned..

    Thanks!

There is quite a noticeable difference between not only the physical size but also the resolution available. The X220 has two things going for it: lighter weight and the availability of an IPS screen. The T420 has advantages of improved ergonomics, bigger and higher resolution screen (which is still quite nice and bright, and does not suffer drawbacks of the X220 IPS such as ghosting).

I also have an X201, but I think the T420 is far superior for general use, for me. Also, while the X201 is a bit lighter, it's no easier to slip into my work bag, because of its thickness and wedge shape. I gladly tote the extra 1+ pound around to have the bigger better screen, better palmrest, etc.

If you're docked all the time when you work and have a monitor, and just need the lightest possible machine to carry around, well, the X220 would be superior, I guess. Have you considered getting a monitor?

I will be using to move form room to room.

Would anyone say the x220 is a better made unit ?

Just wondering if the x220 screen size is good enough for work

I personally find it to be perfectly acceptable, but others like the resolution. I prefer quality to quantity, especially since the stick is so easy to scroll on. You're probably going to have to figure which person you are and go from there. I don't know that I can help you do that since we just met. If at some point you decide you'd like more resolution, the external monitor is a good suggestion.
