This isn't your typical driver issue thread.

I swapped a 2nd ssd into the main drive caddy on my T420, and installed win10 on it, as it was finalizing, I noticed no sound from cortana, even those the volume buttons would display on screen when pressed. I figured it was a driver issue, but at that point, I needed my laptop to be back to my daily driver, so I shut it down, and slapped my other ssd back into it and booted my daily driver win7 install.

Upon booting, first thing I noticed was my wireless mouse didn't work, I tried swapping the usb receiver from the back usb port, to the right side usb port, still no go. pulled the ouse battery and replaced, no go, put the usb receiver in the LEFT port, it works fine.
So I plug my stereo into my aux jack, kick on pandora, and forget about it. 30 minutes later, I get a facebook call, I come back to my laptop, unplug my aux jack before shutting pandora off, and notice, no sound from my laptops speakers.. I try and answer the video call on facebook, and it tells me I have no microphone or webcam installed.

After that, first thing I did, a quick reboot. Same exact problems, open device manager, all devices are there, all drivers are there, no errors reported, everything is exactly how it was. Then I tried clearing my bios, same problem, tried going into bios, disabling the devices, booting up, then rebooting back to bios, enabling them again, still same problem.

I don't get it. I don't understand what could be wrong. In the last 10 years, I have pulled my daily driver hard drive out of MANY systems, swapped in another drive, or booted from usb, or whatever, di WHATEVER I WANT IN WHATEVER OS, then take it out, put my old drive back in, and its all perfect. I know with uefi and win10 they have control over the bios, and I feel that somehow THIS TIME, win10 somehow changed **** up and I don't know how to fix it. I also have ran windows 10 on this T420 on a few different occasions, I just never fully made the switch to using it full time, I always went back to win7 within a few days or weeks. I even for a while ran a triple boot setup, win7, win10, and kali linux, no problems ever.

I miss my sound! I can't even watch stupid little clips on facebook anymore without putting earbuds in, not to mention the countless hours I sit in bed watching tv/movies on my T420!

To rule out motherboard issue boot using a Linux Live Distribution and test if your peripherals work, if they don't then probably your motherboard will need replacement
