Hey guys,
The OEM Hitachi HDD that came with my T420s currently has a couple of bad sectors and less than 5% corrupted causing freezing and BSODs on occasions. So I decided to play it safe and bought the only other 2.5 7mm HDD which is the Seagate Momentus Thin.
Even though all my important files are on Dropbox I would still like to retain the other 200 G of media that I have accumulated throughout the year.
So what is the easiest way to do swaps drives? Or is it better to reinstall all the software again given the corrupted state of my current Hitachi? My only concern that I am not able to use NIS 2012 on it leading me to believe that I might have some malware as well?
Thanks in advance!!
Jason

You could do a "clone" of the existing drive to the new drive, by using a tool like Acronis or Apricorn. Given the state of your existing drive, I would do a clean installation of OS and applications.
Should you choose to clone, the existing drive stays in the main bay while the new drive is connected to the system via a SATA-USB cable. Then, the drives are swapped. Should you choose to clean-install, the drives must be swapped right away.
In either case, a SATA-USB cable may be used to connect the old drive to the system so that your data files can be copied over to the new drive.
Finally, a full format can be performed on the old drive.
