Would you dare to do this with any other laptop?![]()

The Sony Z almost turns into a taco when you do this. From what I gather, they want it to flex rather than being extremely stiff. Kind of like a skyscraper moving in the wind.

super-cringy!
I would never do this (just because I am prone to breaking things as it is), but if I had to it would definitely be exclusive to thinkpads.
thanks for the monday morning eyeopener! -

Prediction: LCD whitespots will form in the next 12-18 months on the panel you did that to.

That picture of the Sony shows different points of stress on the lid versus the ThinkPad mirkot posted. If you notice the picture mirkot posted the person is keeping the ThinkPad aloft by holding the lid from the corner of the LCD panel. Just curious but how would the Sony fare if it was held in the exact same fashion?
Regarding any laptop- why would anyone want to hold their laptops in such a manner??!!! -

Awesome! Thanks for posting.

The X220 can do that too. Actually, all traditional ThinkPads can. My old 600X is extra tough, it doesn't even bend a millimeter! Yep, those were the days...
Problem with most Consumer Laptops is, their screens don't open wide enough to do something like that. But as expected, none of my class mates/friends would ever do that to their Laptops whereas I do it almost every day. (it's fun)
EDIT: As you can see, I am holding it even more towards the corner, pretty much at the edge really. So unlike the T430s and VAIO, my fingers are not supporting the Display.

Wow, I don't know who else is going to try this, but let me warn T400s and T410s owners to abstain. I remember seeing a post from a T410s owner who cracked the LCD just by moving the screen with one hand. Lenovo must have strengthened the lid on newer T4x0s models.

You *can* do it with a T400s.
You just shouldn't.
It's a neat demo, kinda like the IBM sales rep trick of walking on top of a ThinkPad, but I wouldn't do that to a machine that I wanted to keep in good condition for a long time. -
I can also do this with my L520. But I shouldn´t.

Has the same change in material taken place in the regular T430?
-
No, only with the T430s, because there were some problems with cracked displays and withe-spots on the T420s. The T430 has still the same carbon-mix as the T420, because there were no problems (the lid on T420/T430 is a bit thicker than the s lid).
I suppose that the new carbon is more expensive than the old one.
