I installed win8 on T420s and wanted to outline some of the issues I saw in regards to thinkpad apps and drivers. Perhaps someone knows some ways to get around these issues.
-Conexant drivers + Dolby do not install - default sound driver seems to work fine
-The Lenovo Access Connections app is a bit strange. It didn't work but after a few restarts it did. However, the find a wap to connect to section seems to be very buggy. The soft selection of on/off for wifi and BT did end up working.
-Fingerprint software doesn't work so no swipe login
-If you are in metro, using a Fn+<Function> does not show the desktop and focus the context menu automatically. I think lenovo will fix it by having their context menu come from the side similar to the new win+P key for changing screen modes.
Anyone try out win8?

I'll be trying it out later on this week with an X61 7674-GS3 (struggling to download the ISO image just now) - I'm interested to see how it performs, especially with the lower resolution screen that I have (12.1", 1024x768) along with the Intel C2D T7300 CPU.

Installing the ThinkVantage communications pkg broke the Camera app for me. The app does not detect my camera anymore.

I'm downloading it as we speak. After my midterm tonight I might play around with it and report how it goes.

Just spent about 15 minutes messing with it before class, some initial impressions:
-Metro interface looks nice, but will take some time to get used to. I think it'll be great when the store has tons of different apps, but until then I can't see myself spending much time in the metro UI for basic schoolwork, etc.
-I could see the metro UI being really easy to navigate if Windows laptops had much more capable multi-finger gestures like Macbooks.
-The screen picture seems to have improved on my T420s. The colors are more brighter and the picture seems less washed out than it did in Win7.
If I have some free time I might look into doing a write up/review of the consumer preview for you guys...If you have anything you'd want me to try let me know.
I like it so far, but Metro UI in regards to my T420s will probably not be used a whole lot.
In the future Windows 8 would work great with an Ideapad Yoga or similar convertible tablets in the future. The metro UI would be great for media/app use on a touchscreen while still allowing you to easily work in the traditional desktop for work applications.
