I bought the t420s and installed MW3 on it. After an hour of playing, the top left bottom part of the laptop gets very hot, but the temp of the CPU and gup are around 60-70c is it normal?
-
-
Sounds normal to me--this is where the CPU, GPU, and cooling system are. Those temperatures are pretty good. The heat you feel is better being removed from the machine than hanging out around the CPU and GPU.
-
But does the heat affects the "case" in long term? Like turning fragile or soften it?
-
Now, when I use it with my air conditioning off, it get up to 98c is it still normal?
-
98C is quite high. Is that for the CPU or GPU? Which method did you use to apply the thermal paste?
-
its for the CPU. I only bought it for over a month now. I haven't touch the inside yet...
-
98C is quite normal. Both my T420s and X220 can be stressed to 98C easily with:
a) AIDA64 Stability Test -> FPU only, or
b) LinX with 4 threads, or
c) Prime95 with 8 threads. -
So theres nothing we can do besides getting a cooling pad under it? Wish the plate can be easy remove as my other laptops...
-
Update to T430s or T420/T430 or X230, they are all doing better job than T420s.
Getting a cooling pad is good if you don't travel, it will add some weight and a lot of carry-space. -
Get a cooling pad that directs the air to the right places and with a proper flow direction. I don't know which cooler would work better though. Lot of coolers wont help at all because of those two reasons. Don't play games on a laptop. Lol.
-
Then I guess, I'll play less often...*sign*
-
Now, I really wish I bought a laptop that is made out of aluminum. The left side of the speaker got soften after the high temperature.
-
Should have not listen to the salesman and bought this laptop...next time, I'll be more careful when buying laptops...

ThinkPads were never built to perform as gaming rigs...
You may want to consider installing TPFC and adjusting the fan settings to suit your needs...

Good luck. -
If you stress any of these laptops with LinX or Prime95, you still get 97C within 10 minutes for sure.
