So yeah, the T420s does not have a slice. That's confirmed. You can have an SSD, the Intel 310 (or the SuperTalent CoreStore MV next month -- but you can have that in every laptop) but that takes the full size mPCIe slot -- no WWAN. And you can have one of these super slim new HDDs. Or a second SSD. And a third in the UltraBay :D

The T420 does not list the Intel 310 as an option. What a shame. But, SuperTalent took care of that.

I wish the weight situation would be more clear. The only real problem with the T420 is the weight, really, who cares about USB3, just add an ExpressCard if you need it but let's face it, most of us will need the eSATA port more.

Edit: and yes! it is now more clear, the T420 is now Starting at 4.84 lbs.

So, no thoughts on this? I know there is a lot of new stuff coming out, but does that mean this is a not so good idea/deal?

T420 starting at 4.84 lb. T420s starting at 3.94 lb.

Roughly 1 lb difference. You decide if the T420s is worth the few hundred bucks extra.

Lenovo managed to reduce some weight from the T410 to the T420. That certainly closed the gap between the T420s and the T420.

The most common config for the T420s will probably be the 6 cell due to the underneath design. The T420s weighs 3.68 lbs. with the 6 cell.

The most common config for the T420 will probably be the 9 cell. The T420 weighs 4.70 with the 9 cell. 4.31 with the 6 cell.

I took the numbers from the March tabook.pdf using the Optimus configs for each. Clearly the gap between the two machines has closed considerably and smart cost conscience buyers will opt for the T420. But people spend their money how they see fit. Look at all the different cars, trucks and suvs on the road.

Does the T420 have the nVidia option? I can't find it on the CTO options

The 4200m is not an option yet, but it should be available on March 29th (tomorrow!). Also if you are a student, you can configure it already, but it's an extra $180. Does anyone have an idea of how much it will be without the discount?

Yes, the T420s will not be compatible with a slice. It will be compatible with the Ultrabay battery though (57Y453).
